    Abstract: Compositions for treating a subterranean formation comprising a water-swellable agent and a sealing agent are described. Preferably, the water-swellable agent is a dehydrated polymer that forms a three-dimensional gel structure in water wherein the gel structure is a continuous mass both inside and outside the water-swellable agent. The sealing agent comprises a non-acidic ethylenically unsaturated polar monomer; a copolymerisable ethylenically unsaturated ester; and at least one organic gelling agent.

    Abstract: Provided embodiments relate to introducing a water-drainage-rate-enhancing agent into a subterranean formation to enhance gas production following a relative-permeability-modifier treatment to decrease undesired water production. An exemplary embodiment provides a method of treating a subterranean formation such that initiation of gas production is enhanced following the treatment, the method comprising: introducing a relative-permeability modifier into at least a portion of the subterranean formation such that the relative-permeability modifier reduces permeability of the portion to aqueous fluids; and introducing a water-drainage-rate-enhancing agent into at least a portion of the subterranean formation. Another exemplary embodiment provides a treatment fluid comprising a carrier fluid, a relative-permeability modifier, and a water-drainage-rate-enhancing agent.

    Abstract: The invention provides for a composition for treating a subterranean formation, the composition comprising a water-swellable agent and a sealing agent. Preferably, the water-swellable agent: i) absorbs greater than 100 weight % of water; and ii) swells to greater than 100 weight % as it absorbs water. Preferably the sealing agent: i) is greater than 0.01 weight % soluble in water; and ii) forms a three dimensional gel structure in water. The invention also provides for a method of treating a subterranean formation penetrated by a wellbore, the method comprising the steps of: a) introducing a sealing agent into the subterranean formation; and b) introducing a water-swellable agent into the subterranean formation.

    Abstract: Methods for the completion of subterranean well bores in a multilateral well system are provided. More particularly, methods are provided for the sealing of junctions between lateral well bores and a parent well bore. The sealants used in accordance with the methods provided generally comprise any sealing composition which can be placed within a subterranean formation, and injected a sufficient distance into a region of the formation surrounding a junction between a first well bore and a second well bore in fluid communication with the first well bore, so as to prevent the undesired entry of formation fluids into either well bore in the region surrounding the junction.

    Abstract: A proactive conformance method for a well includes selecting a well either in a completion phase or early in a production phase of the well and performing a conformance treatment on the well in the completion phase or early in the production phase. The conformance treatment preferably is performed before the well is completed (i.e., sometime during the completion phase between the well having been drilled and the well being placed in production), such as after running open hole logging or before setting casing. Another preferred aspect is the use of magnetic resonance imaging, such as using magnetic resonance imaging to analyze the well to determine where unwanted mobile fluid is in a reservoir intersected by the well. Such a well is completed in response to using the magnetic resonance imaging, including treating the well to confine at least part of the unwanted mobile fluid determined to be in the reservoir.
