  • Patent number: 6296293
Abstract: The present invention involves a auxiliary sun visor assembly for a vehicle which is laterally adjustable and sufficiently compact to fit between a headliner and a main visor of the vehicle. The assembly provides greater blockage than conventionally provided by a single sun visor. The assembly is sufficiently compact to fit between the headliner and the main visor without substantially biasing the main visor away from the headliner. The assembly includes a visor body, a support arm having first and second ends and a ridge extending longitudinally between the ends, a detent clip for supporting the visor body and movable pivotably and slidably longitudinally with respect to the support arm, and a u-shaped bushing having terminal portions wrapped around the support arm between the detent clip and the support arm wherein the terminal portions terminate substantially at opposite sides of the ridge preventing the bushing from pivotal movement about the support arm.

  • Patent number: 5451022
Abstract: An assembly is disclosed for mounting a sun visor to the roof of a motor vehicle. The assembly comprises a frame, an arm receiver, and a spring. The frame has an opening therethrough, a plurality of anchors disposed around the perimeter of the frame opening and adapted to engage the roof, and a plurality of stop tabs disposed around the perimeter of the frame opening. The arm receiver has an upper flange adapted to be inserted through the frame opening, a plurality of channels adapted to receive a corresponding stop tab, and a lower flange. The spring is disposed between the frame and the arm receiver so that upon insertion of the upper flange of the arm receiver through the frame opening and rotation of the arm receiver about a central axis, the rotation stop tabs enter their corresponding channels and are held therein to prevent the arm receiver from being withdrawn through the frame opening.

  • Patent number: 5365416
Abstract: A vehicular sun visor having a single molded plastic core member. A first face of the core member includes an integrally molded channel member for receiving an extender blade therein. The opposite face of the core member includes a series of integrally molded channels and grooves for the reception of a series of wires and lamps comprising the lighting circuitry. An upholstery cover member is folded over the core member and secured along a seam. The cover member is adhered to a rigid foundation and includes a pair of access openings therein through which a mirror and lens assembly is removably attached to the core member. The cover member defines the shape of the sun visor.

  • Patent number: 5098151
Abstract: A mounting bracket assembly for a vehicle sunshade includes a hook end and an axially opposite fastener end, wherein the hook end is insertable into a first aperture in the vehicle roof, after which the assembly is rotated so that the fastener end is received within a second aperture in the roof and is attached thereto by a single fastener.

  • Patent number: 5042867
Abstract: A sunshade assembly, and method of manufacturing same, including an inner core board, a self-contained extender assembly mounted to the core board, and an outer covering. The extender assembly includes a plastic channel member attached to the core board by heat staking, and an extender blade slidingly received within the channel member between a retracted position and an extended position. The handle end of the extender blade extends through an access opening in the outer covering and includes a handle portion that, in the retracted position of the extender blade, wraps around and frictionally engages the peripheral edge of the outer covering, thereby making the handle visible and easily grasped from both sides of the sunshade assembly. The channel member includes upper and lower tracks between which the blade is slidingly retained. The tracks include fingers that are resiliently biased against the blade to provide friction.

  • Patent number: 5031954
Abstract: A mounting bracket assembly for a sunshade including an inner bracket having an integrally formed square boss that is inserted into a corresponding hole in the sheet metal roof of a vehicle. A bracket arm is snapped into the inner bracket, and includes a key that fits within an arcuate keyway in the inner bracket. Upon initial pivoting of the bracket arm, the key engages the end wall of the keyway and causes the inner bracket to rotate to a locked position wherein the square boss is against the back surface of the roof and the key freely moves within the arcuate keyway through the range of sunshade operation. An outer bracket snaps over the inner bracket prior to its insertion into the roof, in order to keep the assembly against the headliner when the inner bracket is rotated. A tool having an arcuate tip may be inserted into an opening in the inner bracket for removal of the sunshade.
