Patent number: 8346314Abstract: The slot cycle index is currently negotiated by a mobile handset and a base station. However, if the slot cycle index could be selected dynamically a mobile handset that operates more efficiently for the user would result. Talk time could be maximized when the battery, or other mobile power source is low, while connect time for a mobile call could be minimized when the battery is near fully charged or at times when the user is likely to make a mobile call. Additionally, location could be used to determine the likelihood that the user will make a mobile call. However, current network usage would typically need to be considered when determining if the slot cycle index should be changed. Mobile handset users could also charged for quicker response times, or mobile handset users on more expensive plans could be given typically faster response times. Many different things can be considered in determining when to adjust slot cycle index, such as, for example, battery power, time of day, or system loading.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2007Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Assignee: KYOCERA CorporationInventor: Don Timms

Patent number: 7428431Abstract: A wireless communication device includes a housing, and a retractable combination speaker box and antenna mechanism operably coupled with the housing. The retractable combination speaker box and antenna mechanism includes a speaker box with an enclosed acoustic volume, and an antenna. The retractable combination speaker box and antenna mechanism is movable between at least a retracted position where the retractable combination speaker box and antenna mechanism is adjacent with the housing, the antenna is in a retracted condition, and the speaker box includes a retracted enclosed acoustic volume, and a deployed position where the retractable combination speaker box and antenna mechanism is moved away from the housing, the antenna is in a deployed condition farther away from the housing than the retracted condition, and the speaker box includes a deployed enclosed acoustic volume that is greater than the retracted enclosed acoustic volume.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2005Date of Patent: September 23, 2008Assignee: Kyocera Wireless Corp.Inventor: Don Timms

Publication number: 20060178159Abstract: An push-to-talk wireless communication device and method of facilitating a push-to-talk call are disclosed. The wireless communication device includes a voice recognition module that allows a user to establish and carry out a push-to-talk call through voice commands. The voice recognition module facilitates a push to talk call by establishing a push-to-talk call in response to a voice command. During the call, the voice recognition module identifies predetermined code words from the audio stream and manages the push-to-talk call functions accordingly.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 7, 2005Publication date: August 10, 2006Inventors: Don Timms, Refael Bar
