  • Patent number: 4774434
Abstract: An LED display particularly adapted to be used as part of a design on articles of clothing such as tee-shirts, includes a flexible circuit board to which individual LED dies are secured in desired position. The individual dies are electrically connected to traces on the circuit board and are encapsulated on the board so as to protect the individual dies and connections and so that the encapsulating material forms lenses for the dies. In most instances, the display so formed will be completely covered with a protective layer of covering material having a design thereon and having transparent or translucent means over the encapsulated LED dies so that light given off by the LEDs is transmitted through the layer. Control circuitry is provided to supply power to the LEDs, preferably in a predetermined pattern, to cause them to illuminate.
