    Abstract: A mattress of the type used on ambulance cots and similar patient transporting devices, the mattress having a cover containing patient supporting cushions, the cushion in the area of the patient's head and back overlying one or more stiffening panels which, upon removal of the overlying cushions, provide a firm support for the administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the mattress preferably having an articulated head section which may be inclined relative to the back section to place the patient's head in a hyper-extended position.
