The proxy server is configured to store a plurality of templates for indicating how messages are to be processed. When the message with a token is received, the proxy server is configured to decrypt the message and retrieve, from memory, a template identified by the template identifier. The template indicates a location of the token within the message, and the proxy server uses the template to identify the token within the message. The proxy server then replaces the token within the message with data represented by the token and encrypts the message prior to transmitting it to a destination.
