Publication number: 20080044187Abstract: A communications system for wireless transceiving of information, comprising an optical array subsystem for transceiving optical signals and a millimeter wave subsystem for transceiving millimeter wave signals, and a beam steering controller for controlling the direction of the optical and millimeter wave signals. The communication system may be on a flying platform, such as a satellite and may communicate with multiple remote terminals.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 14, 2007Publication date: February 21, 2008Inventors: Jerry Krill, Donald Duncan, Joe Frank, Craig Moore, Joseph Cipriano, Raymond Sova

Publication number: 20050234300Abstract: A hand-held ophthalmoscope modified by the removal or augmentation of the focusing wheel and the addition of a manual or automatic focusing lens system. An electronic imager (CCD array or video camera) is placed optically conjugate to a viewing screen such that focus operations performed by the examiner to adjust the image seen by the examiner on the screen also focuses the image on the electronic imager. This is accomplished by an optical system which includes a straight path from the viewing screen to the patient's eye with a beam splitter interposed to cause the image of the patient's eye to be reflected onto the imager. As a result, when the examiner uses the focusing lens system, manual or automatic, positioned between the beam splitter and the patient's eye, to affect the image viewed by the examiner, the focus of the imager is simultaneously affected as well.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 15, 2005Publication date: October 20, 2005Inventors: Richard Farrell, Lorenz Happel, Russell McCally, Donald Duncan, Kevin Baldwin

Patent number: 6857706Abstract: The present invention is directed to a mining method for steeply dipping orebodies. In the method, an excavator 152 is tethered to a deployment system 120 by one or more cables/umbilicals 144. The excavator 152 excavates slices 172a-h of the orebody 100 by moving generally up-dip, down-dip or a combination thereof. The excavator can be automated.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 2002Date of Patent: February 22, 2005Assignee: Placer Dome Technical Services LimitedInventors: Marilyn Patricia Ann Hames, Timothy B. Dimock, Edward William Drew Anwyll, Donald Duncan Young, Fredric Christopher Delabbio, Eric Jackson, Simon Mark Jackson

Patent number: 5174125Abstract: An apparatus for detecting a deficiency in refrigerant in a refrigeration system is disclosed. The apparatus has an extension arm for mounting onto a refrigerant line downstream of the expansion valve. The extension arm is cantilevered for amplifying the vibrations of the refrigerant system when deficient in refrigerant. Mounted on the extension arm is an accelerometer for detecting this vibration and sending an electrical signal upon detection thereof. Electrically connected to the accelerometer is a signalling device for providing a warning or alarm signal of a deficient refrigerant situation.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1991Date of Patent: December 29, 1992Inventor: Donald Duncan

Patent number: 4933807Abstract: A capacitive pressure-sensitive and displacement-sensitive sensor apparatus and method in which first electrode means comprising a thin resilient conductive inclined or arcuate plastic sheet having a plurality of resilient projections protruding from the inner surface of the sheet and with said projections pressure-deformable by application of pressure thereat from the outer surface of the sheet cooperates with a second relatively flat electrode facing and coextensive with the projections and separated from the same by a thin dielectric layer therebetween, the first electrode extending inclinedly or arcuately over the second electrode such that when force is applied to the resilient first electrode along said outer surface thereof, as by a portion of means such as a keyboard key contacting the same, it approaches the second electrode and dielectric layer through air in a fashion which causes the resilient deformable projections along the inclined or arcuate inner surface thereof to contact said dielectric layType: GrantFiled: August 23, 1989Date of Patent: June 12, 1990Assignee: Key Concepts, Inc.Inventor: Donald A. Duncan

Patent number: 4152540Abstract: A feedthrough connector for use on an implantable electronic cardiac pacer. A single structure provides a means for connecting a heart lead to the pacer and feedthrough into the body of the pacer. The feedthrough may include filtering means to protect against external interferences. The entire structure has provisions for physical compliance to absorb stresses due to different heat coefficients and as may be caused during assembly and use. Also disclosed is a method for making the feedthrough connector.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 1977Date of Patent: May 1, 1979Assignee: American Pacemaker CorporationInventors: Donald A.
