  • Publication number: 20110185721
Abstract: An energy conversion device, such as a wave energy conversion device has a diaphragm (30) attached to a frame (100, 110) with opposed lateral edges of the diaphragm (30) being attached to the frame (100, 110) with an ā€œSā€-shaped configuration. The diaphragm (30) and frame (100, 110) form a cell (20) for fluid which is driven by movement of the diaphragm to drive a power-take-off device such as a turbine mounted in a duct leading from the cell (20). The diaphragm may be reinforced by cords, preferably vertical cords. Multiple cells (20) may be arranged in a ring, or the duct from one cell may lead to a reservoir or to another cell.

  • Patent number: 7187787
Abstract: A method and implementation of enhancing a facial recognition process to increase the judgment confidence on identifying a person from a large image database of multiple persons. The method may include reconstructing a database of 2D images having only a small number of images with respect to each person into a database having multiple images, perhaps hundreds or thousands, of each person. The multiple images represent different camera angles or different lighting conditions. The method further includes adding an extra confidence percentage to matching images in the database when multiple images of a person are identified as matching.

  • Patent number: 6983820
Abstract: In order to form a noise suppressor in a hose of e.g. a motor vehicle, modular portions are connected in series to define suppression chambers with particular noise suppression characteristics. Those characteristics are due to the volume of each chamber, to the size of the apertures from the chambers to the central duct of the suppressor, and optionally due to spacers which are inserted into at least one aperture of the chambers to alter the effective open area of that aperture. Such spacers may also be used in which the noise suppressor is not modular. Where modular portions are used, it is preferable that each chamber is bounded by parts of two modular portions. A wall of one modular portion may then close the chamber in another modular portion, making the manufacture of the modular portions easier. Also disclosed is the use of a mass acting as a damper, which may be a noise suppressor as previously discussed, within a hose. The mass is connected to the hose by resilient means, e.g. electrometric material.

  • Publication number: 20040151349
Abstract: A method to perform a facial recognition and comparison computer system using multiple 2D facial images, which were parsed from a captured 3D facial image, is disclosed. The parsed 2D images facial recognition computing system's architecture and implementation allow the use of parsing 3D facial images into multiple 2D facial images at different angles; the use of a commercial off the shelf (COTS) application/algorithm for facial recognition to digitize these 2D images into strings of binary data for comparison with others within a 2D facial images database; and the high speed data comparison obtained by using a memory resident relational database management system. Specifically, the accuracy of the facial image search and the processing speed of a database query, and data display will be substantially increased with the available multiple facial images at different angles while by taking advantage of the speed of RAM (Random Access Memory).

  • Publication number: 20020088500
Abstract: A convoluted hose is disclosed, being particularly suitable for use in a motor vehicle engine. The hose has a series of annular corrugations, which improve the flexibility of the hose. Each corrugation varies gradually in height around the hose, from a minimum height to a maximum height. In one embodiment, the minimum height is separated from the maximum height by at least 120°, preferably 180°, and the minimum height may be zero. In another embodiment, the corrugations are of elliptical cross section, each corrugation having two maximum height parts and two minimum height parts, the minimum height being 10% or more of the maximum height. The arrangement of minimum height parts of the corrugations allows limitation of axial expansion of the hose.
