Publication number: 20240044461Abstract: A T-LED light engine that provides up-light and down light. The T-LED has a top lens that emits a “bat-wing” light pattern and a bottom lens that emits a Lambertion light pattern. The T-LED light engine has an internal or on-board driver unit and/or on-board control unit. End caps of the T-LED light engine can be removed to service or replace internal components. The end caps have two-pin contact configurations that mate with tombstone style sockets or connectors and/or have bridge connector for connecting multiple T-LED light engines in series.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 3, 2023Publication date: February 8, 2024Applicant: Earth Lighting LLCInventors: Donald A. Patent number: 8740410Abstract: This is directed to a troffer-style light fixture using a LED light to cross-light internal surfaces of the troffer. In particular, this is directed to a troffer-style fixture having several receptacles for receiving LED modules. The modules can be inserted in the fixture such that some light emitted by the LED modules is directed towards an opposite surface of the fixture, causing light from opposite LED modules to mix as light is emitted from the fixture (e.g., cross lighting the fixture environment. The resulting light transmitted and reflected by the troffer can have softer qualities than direct light emitted by a LED module, and enhance the aesthetic appeal of light provided by the fixture. In some embodiments, one or more optical treatments can be applied to internal surfaces of the fixture to enhance the light output by the fixture.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2010Date of Patent: June 3, 2014Assignee: Lunera Lighting, Inc.Inventors: Donald A. Peifer, Michael A. Sanjurjo

Patent number: 8608351Abstract: This is directed to a luminaire having a removable inner accessory and optical component. A luminaire can include a base and an outer accessory through which light generated by a light source placed in the base is transmitted. To customize the light emitted by the luminaire, an inner accessory having an optical component can be placed within the outer accessory. The optical component can be tuned to provide a light pattern corresponding to an environment in which the luminaire is placed. Because all of the components used to create the luminaire, other than the optical component, are standard, the luminaire can be easily constructed with a default optical component, but also easily customized at a minimal cost. In addition, the optical component can be recessed relative to the outer accessory to improve optical performance of the luminaire.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2011Date of Patent: December 17, 2013Assignee: Lunera Lighting, Inc.Inventor: Donald A. Peifer

Publication number: 20120176784Abstract: A luminous retrofitting door for use in a troffer-style fixture is provided. A door having a frame operative to be mounted in a troffer is provided. The door may retain one or more optical components including, for example, a LED module, a light guide array, a diffuser, and a reflector, that combine to emit light in a uniform manner from the troffer.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2011Publication date: July 12, 2012Applicant: LUNERA LIGHTING INC.Inventors: Donald A. Patent number: 7918598Abstract: An LED light fixture system includes an LED module having a plurality of LEDs attached thereto and directed inwardly toward a secondary optic. The LED module is releasably attached to an interior surface of a peripheral frame. The frame includes an openable portion positioned to allow the LED module to be inserted or removed through an opening created when the openable portion is in an open position. The openable portion is movable from the open position to a closed position and provides an electrical connection between the LEDs attached to the LED module and a source of electrical current when the openable portion is in the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2010Date of Patent: April 5, 2011Assignee: Lunera Lighting, Inc.Inventors: Donald A. Peifer, Mark J. Walsh

Publication number: 20100110658Abstract: In one embodiment of the present invention, a suspendable semi-direct lighting fixture is provided for illuminating a work surface. The suspendable semi-direct lighting fixture includes a downlighting fixture portion, and a solid state uplighting fixture portion disposable above the downlighting fixture portion. The downlighting fixture portion and the solid state uplighting fixture portion are suspendable below a ceiling, and the solid state uplighting fixture portion is operable to emit light substantially in a 90-135 degree zone and substantially not in a 135-180 degree zone. An auxiliary solid state uplighting fixture for use with a downlighting fixture is also disclosed. Methods employing such lighting fixtures are further disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 8, 2009Publication date: May 6, 2010Inventor: Donald A. Peifer

Publication number: 20100085762Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for illuminating a work surface using a solid state lighting fixture includes generating light from a solid state light source, introducing the light into a light guide, reflecting some of the light from a reflector back into the light guide, and introducing light emitted from the light guide into at least one optical element. The emitted light from the at least one optical element has a shifted spatial power distribution to more closely approximate a vertical and horizontal Lambertian spatial power distribution, and the emitted light comprises a total zonal lumens of at least about 90-percent of the total zonal lumens emitted without the at least one optical element. The solid state lighting fixture being operable to emit non-polarized light to generally accurately reproduce colors of objects on the work surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 2, 2009Publication date: April 8, 2010Inventor: Donald A.
