  • Patent number: 6454036
Abstract: The invention allows an automated vehicle to reliably and repeatedly navigate any arbitrary area or path after being trained by an operator. This invention uses the Earth's magnetic and gravitational fields for directional vectors and uses optical shaft encoders mounted on a non-driving wheel to accurately measure the distance traveled. These sensory inputs are sufficient to accurately locate the vehicle in three-dimensional space and can be compared against a stored map to generate the navigational signal. Training the vehicle involves storing this sensory information in a computerized log as an operator moves the vehicle over the target area. Once the vehicle has been trained, it is able to recognize and navigate the terrain without the need for artificial landmarks or human intervention.

  • Patent number: 6006199
Abstract: A method and system are provided for automating validation and payment within a Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) system having a number of trading partners linked via an independent (or proprietary) communications network utilizing an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). Planned orders for production items generated via a Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) system and/or orders for non-production items are utilized by a purchasing system to create a purchase order which is then transmitted to a supplier via Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). A planned receipt list of items is created based upon the purchase order and utilized to validate those items listed within an advanced ship notice. In response to such validation, or after correcting any discrepancy in accordance with listed tolerances, an authorization for payment is automatically generated and payment is issued.

  • Patent number: 5257736
Abstract: The present ventilating system is used for homes and buildings located in cold climate areas. The system includes a heat exchanger for extracting heat from the inside air discharged to the exterior and transferring said heat to the outside air admitted into the building. Blowers circulate air through the two paths of the heat exchanger and a motorized damper on the outside air path closes or opens the same. An integrated circuit and the following sensors serve to operate the system as follows: sensors detect the concentration of air contaminants, the humidity and the negative pressure of the air inside the building, while an outside air temperature sensor is also provided. When the level of air contaminants is above an adjustable preset level, the system operates in an inside air upgrading mode, namely air is circulated in both paths of the air exchanger; the same mode is used where humidity level is found to be excessive.

  • Patent number: 4122401
Abstract: The invention described herein is essentially a single ended power amplifier circuit properly biased to avoid crossover distortion and comprising in its output stage an NPN power transistor connected between a positive voltage source and a load. The base of the NPN transistor is connected to the collector of a PNP power transistor whose emitter is also connected to the positive voltage source. The parallel NPN/PNP transistor composite arrangement is a major feature in the power amplifier circuit resulting in a reasonably low quiescent current, low distortion, inherent stability, and ease in biasing. The composite combination of the PNP/NPN output transistors are driven by a single high Beta NPN input transistor driving the base of the PNP output transistor through a diode connected PNP transistor with unity current gain. The PNP output transistor drives the base terminal of the NPN output transistor. An alternate embodiment is disclosed which utilizes two overload protective transistors.

  • Patent number: 4114961
Abstract: The big end bearing cap of an internal combustion engine connecting rod is connected to the remainder of the connecting rod by bolts which locate the big end bearing shells both angularly and axially of the bearing. The machining of the bearing surface is carried out with the cap bolted to the remainder by either the bolts which are to form part of the completed connecting rod or by slave bolts which may be repeatedly used. In the former case, parts of the bolts are cut away as the envelope of the bearing cylinder and those of the bolt holes overlap and in the final assembly of the bearing these bolts are turned through 180.degree. so that their cut-away portions face away from the bearing surface.
