  • Publication number: 20160341074
Abstract: A lubrication system for a gas turbine engine includes a tank, a circulation pump, and a heat exchanger. The circulation pump generates a flow of lubricant from the tank to, e.g., a power gear box of the gas turbine engine and the heat exchanger removes an amount of heat from such flow of lubricant provided to the power gear box. The lubrication system also includes one or more valves in the flow of lubricant for controlling a flowrate and/or temperature of the lubricant provided to, e.g., the power gear box to increase an efficiency and/or durability of the power gear box.

  • Publication number: 20160252176
Abstract: A gearbox support apparatus includes a gearbox carrier having a central axis, the carrier configured to mount one or more rotating gears therein, the carrier including spaced-apart forward and aft walls, and a pin disposed between the forward and aft walls. The gearbox support apparatus includes an inner race connected to the pin as a single integral component incorporating two pairs of raised guides defining a forward raceway and an aft raceway.

  • Publication number: 20160146112
Abstract: An epicyclic gearbox comprises a gearbox housing including an inner cavity receiving an input shaft from a low pressure turbine and an output shaft connected to a fan. A sun gear is disposed within the housing and at least one planetary gear engages and orbits the sun gear. The at least one planetary gear is formed of a first material and an insert is disposed between a gear rim of the at least one planetary gear and a journal. The insert is formed of a second material distinct from the first material and of a weight which is lighter than the first material. The gearbox may include but is not limited to both star gearbox and planetary gearbox configurations.

  • Publication number: 20160032740
Abstract: A pitch control mechanism includes: a rotor structure configured for rotation about a longitudinal axis; a row of blades carried by the rotor structure, each blade having an airfoil and a trunnion mounted for pivoting movement relative to the rotor structure, about a trunnion axis which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis; a unison ring interconnecting the blades; an actuator connected to the unison ring and the rotor structure, operable to move the unison ring relative to the rotor structure; at least one moveable counterweight carried by the rotor structure, remote from the blades; and an interconnection between the blades and the counterweight, such that movement of the counterweight causes a change in the pitch angle of the blades.

  • Publication number: 20150354502
Abstract: A gas turbine engine comprises a fan, a compressor, a turbine having first stage blades and second stage blades, the first stage blades rotates in a first direction and the second stage blades rotates in a second direction opposite the first direction. The first stage blades are directly adjacent to one another, a drive in operable input connection with the fan and in operable output connection with the first stage blades and the second stage blades, the first stage blades and the second stage blades driving the fan through the drive.
