Abstract: The method for fixing clips to a furniture rail comprises the steps of: providing two or more spaced apart clip-clamping machines which are arranged adjacent each other and which have clip magazines aligned, respectively, with an outlet end of each machine; positioning each machine adjacent to and perpendicular one side of the furniture rail and with the magazine of each machine being parallel to each other and with each magazine being perpendicular to the rail; feeding an elongate strip of sheet metal anchor clips including a series of separate, identical anchor clips, assembled end-to-end in a line and held together in a line by a strip of flexible material fixed to each clip, to each magazine of each clip-clamping machine in a direction perpendicular to the furniture rail; and fixing the clip at the front of each magazine to the furniture rail at the same time, thereby fixing a plurality of the clips required by the furniture rail to the one side of the rail at approximately the same time to greatly reduce

Abstract: An elongate string of sheet metal anchor clips includes a series of identical anchor clips disposed in a line, each clip including a flat base portion between a forward, hook shaped end portion and a downturned leg which extends from a corner with the base portion, and a strip of flexible material fixed to each one of the clips to form the string of clips. The strip can have an adhesive on one side thereof for fixing the strip to each clip.

Abstract: The clip clamping machine comprises a clip dispensing and clamping mechanism, a pneumatic piston and cylinder mechanism mounted to one end of the clip dispensing and clamping mechanism, a magazine track mounted to the other end of the clip dispensing and clamping mechanism and a pusher member in the magazine track. The magazine track is made of thermoplastic material to reduce the weight of the machine. Likewise, the pusher member is a one piece plastic pusher member. A lower end of the magazine track has a boss extending outwardly therefrom and having a throughbore which receives a bolt that also extends through sidewalls of a housing of the clip dispensing and clamping mechanism and through bifurcated arms of a stationary anvil mounted to the housing.

Abstract: An improved sheet metal clip is interconnected in a collated stack of clips with a plastic rope inserted within side slots on each side edge of each clip. Each clip is generally U-shaped having a crown portion with a pair of parallel spaced leg portions depending from the crown portion. The rope is inserted within the side slots formed in the side edges of each clip. The preferred embodiment of the improved clip includes crown slots which are inwardly extending from each side edge of the crown portion. The rope can be retained within the slots by deflecting tabs on each lateral side edge of the crown portion to enclose the rope within the side slots. The collated stack of clips interconnected with the plastic rope of the present invention provides the needed flexibility and tensile strength for use in manufacturing applications and does not detrimentally affect the operation of the clip in clamping wires and springs together.

Abstract: A device for automatically securing a borderwire on a mattress innerspring comprising a plurality of coils is disclosed. The device comprises a tool for sequentially joining segments of the borderwire to perimeter ones of the coils located along a perimeter of the innerspring, apparatus for advancing the mattress innerspring and borderwire toward the tool, a conductive element for sequentially contacting the perimeter ones of the coils, a sensor for detecting contact of the conductive element with the perimeter ones of the coils, and a control responsive to the sensor for actuating the tool.

Abstract: Apparatus for automatically securing borderwires on mattress innersprings, including a support member for maintaining a mattress innerspring and borderwires on edge in a substantially upright position as clips are automatically wrapped along the supported edge on each side thereof. A rotatable paddle-like member is provided for rotating the mattress innerspring and the borderwires on the support member to present another edge on which clips are to be wrapped. Control means is provided for carrying out, automatically, each operation performed by the apparatus.

A drive mechanism is provided for automatically sequentially advancing the borderwires and the mattress innerspring along the support members to a clip wrapping station where a plurality of clips are simultaneously wrapped on the borderwires and the coils of the mattress innerspring. Control elements are provided for sensing when clips are to be wrapped, and when a predetermined number of clips have been wrapped on each side and each end of borderwires and the mattress innerspring.
