  • Publication number: 20100328314
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and systems are disclosed for monitoring usage of a consumable resource, and displaying substantially instantaneous and historical usage measurements of the consumable resource in both numerical and non-numeric manner. The non-numeric manner facilitates comprehension by non-technical users in conservation applications. The relative size, position and movement of graphical icons, images, symbols and objects convey present and past consumption. A projection of consumption can be calculated and compared against consumption, prompting corrective actions. Past and present conservation performance can be displayed in the context of a game. Various symbols optionally incrementally visually reward conservation or admonish failure, and therein score efforts. Challenging goals can be established to increase conservation. User-chosen display color schemes facilitate décor integration.

  • Patent number: 5760694
Abstract: A pair of spaced electrodes within an area subject to wetness couple non-conductively with a sensor protected from wetness, and an alarm sounds in response to moisture decreasing the resistance between the electrodes. For example the electrodes project into the absorbent material of a diaper and extend along the inside of the diaper sheath opposite a pouch on the outside of the sheath. The pouch contains a sensor capacitively coupled to the electrodes.

  • Patent number: 5714212
Abstract: A jigsaw puzzle sculpture comprising a plurality of interlocking pieces with a suspension point which is oriented relative to the center of gravity of the assembled puzzle sculpture. The suspension point is provided for display of the figure on a display means such as a horizontal rod member, or vertical balancing point, thereby replicating the natural posture, position, stance or carriage of the replicated figure. In the preferred embodiment, the puzzle sculpture replicates a living or extinct creature, such as an exotic, endangered, or extinct bird, which perches on a branch in a natural position.

  • Patent number: 5306957
Abstract: For operating a switch which has a switch lever, such as a toggle switch lever, The invention provides a device which fits over the switch with the switch lever engaged by a slide on the device. Manual operation of the slide moves the switch lever from OFF to ON. The same operation of the slide starts a timer and sets a return mechanism which is retained at its set position by a latch until the timer at the end of a preset time interval actuates a release mechanism which retracts the latch. The return mechanism then returns the slide to turn the switch lever OFF. All of the operating parts, including a self-contained power source are within a housing that fits over the switch. In preferred embodiments the timer is a microcomputer chip. An optional time interval selector is described for presetting a selected time interval for the timer. A single manual movement of the slide causes the device to automatically execute the rest of its cycle.
