  • Patent number: 8053709
Abstract: A portable heating or lighting unit may comprise a housing, a handle, a shield or grid, a source of electric energy, a rectifier, an electrical device adapted to use electrical energy from the source of electric energy, and a control system comprising control hardware and embedded software, where the control system may be adapted to automatically control the electric heating element. A source of electric energy may comprise a battery adapted to store energy and to output stored energy as electrical energy, a fuel cell, a thermoelectric component, or a plug adapted to draw electrical energy from a wall outlet or other source of electrical energy. A battery may be at least partially enclosed by the housing. A thermoelectric component may comprise a thermoelectric material or a thermoelectric generator. An electrical device may comprise a resistive heating element adapted to emit thermal energy.

  • Patent number: 7823579
Abstract: A vertically storable combustion heater having a fuel tank having a generally-cylindrical passage formed in the fuel-tank housing through which an axle extends to support one or more wheels; a heating conduit that is coupled to the fuel tank and includes an outermost shell that is substantially concentric with an inner shell that has a smaller diameter than the outermost shell; a control panel that is connected to the combustion heater to interface with an operator and allows the operator to input instructions governing the operation of the combustion heater; a frame that at least partially encases the heating conduit and fuel tank; a hose having a return curve and nozzle; and a combustion chamber that is defined by the interior periphery of the inner shell.

  • Patent number: 5653220
Abstract: A burn rate control valve for gas fired heaters in the form of a 1/4 turn ball valve having two flow passages through the valve member in which one flow passage is for full gas flow and the other flow passage is smaller in diameter for low gas flow in order to provide a full burn rate or a low burn rate. The two passages are dimensioned and angularly related such that the larger or full burn rate passage essentially provides unrestricted flow when aligned with related ports or piping with the smaller or low burn rate passage being angularly related to the larger passage at an angle less than 90.degree. in order to maintain a flow passageway when the ball valve member is moved to a position with the larger passage perpendicular to the associated ports. This angular relation assures that the smaller flow passage will be opened before the larger flow passage closes too much in order that the burner will not cease to operate and not provide a lower burn rate than intended.

  • Patent number: 5498154
Abstract: An ignition device for burners in which an ignition spark is established over a nonconducting surface between a hot electrode and a grounded electrode or electrically conductor portion which enables a greater spark distance to be obtained as compared to an ignition spark which jumps across an air gap between two conducting electrodes. An additional feature of the present invention is the provision of a high limit control positioned proximal the burner such that flame resulting from heater inlet blockage will flash upstream into the vicinity of the high limit control to control operation of the burner.

  • Patent number: 5017129
Abstract: A porous ceramic gas burner constructed from ceramic blocks associated with each other to form a hollow chamber to receive naturally aspirated gas and air mixture from a venturi with the ceramic blocks including a plurality of small holes enabling passage of the gas and air mixture to the outer periphery of the burner for ignition and combustion with the structural characteristics of the small holes preventing flashback of the flames even though the velocity of the air and gas mixture is less than the flame propagation rate thereby reducing the noise level of the burner by reducing the velocity of the air mixture passing through the burner. The burner is associated with a forced air heater including a fan and a duct associated therewith to direct forced secondary air over the periphery of the burner with the periphery of the burner including a surface generally parallel to the flow path of the secondary air and the holes in the burner being perpendicular to the flow path of the secondary air.
