  • Patent number: 10569950
Abstract: A package for storing or preparing food or other products includes a flexible pouch within which the product can be sealed, and a box? or other container sized to hold the pouch. To seal the product in the pouch, the pouch includes a peelable seal that seals a portion of a first thermoplastic film to a portion of a second thermoplastic film, such films optionally forming walls of the pouch. The package, including the container and the pouch, is configured for beating the sealed product m ? a microwave oven, in a heated state, pressure inside the pouch increases to expand the pouch, and the container constrains or limits expansion of the pouch in some places but not at an expansion region of the container. A portion of the peelable seal is proximate such region, producing a separation in such peelable sea! portion such that the pouch self-vents through the separation.

  • Publication number: 20180362238
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a bag-in-box package having a flowable product contained in a thermoplastic bag which is inserted in or encased within an outer relatively rigid box or carton is provided. The box or carton may be constructed from a rigid or semi-rigid plastic or paperboard and has (i) a flat bottom panel, an opposing top panel, and a self-supporting, upstanding wall connecting the bottom and top panels, and (ii) an access port through the box for inserting a rigid implement, such as a drinking straw or other spout/tap therethrough to puncture the bag and withdraw the flowable product from inside the bag. The flowable product occupies less than 100% of the available volume of the bag and the remaining available head-space volume above the product is evacuated or collapsed in order to prevent spillage or leakage of product from the straw or spout when the bag is punctured.

  • Patent number: 9856064
Abstract: Packaging containers for liquids, such as beverages, comprise at least one sidewall comprising an abuse layer comprising a frangible flap; a zoned release coating on an inner surface of the abuse layer over an area that includes the frangible flap; and an inner layer; wherein upon peeling the frangible flap, a portion of the inner layer is exposed intact. A sanitary surface is provided for receiving a straw. Because there is not a pre-formed opening for the straw, the receipt by the inner layer of a straw conforms exactly to the straw, which fits snugly with the container during use.

  • Publication number: 20160332797
Abstract: The present invention relates to improved easy-open packages for packaging beverages and wet food products for use with form-fill-seal machines, especially vertical form-fill-seal machines, and/or under hot fill or retort sterilization conditions. The packages comprise a frangible first seal connecting the first side of the web to the second side of the web and defining a tube member having an inner surface, an outer surface, a first package wall, a second package wall, opposing first and second package edges, a first package end and an opposing second package end; wherein the frangible first seal exposes a cross-sectional edge of the multilayer film inside the product receiving chamber.

  • Publication number: 20160090217
Abstract: Packaging containers for liquids, such as beverages, comprise: at least one sidewall comprising an edge seal and a frangible border that intersects the edge seal, the sidewall defining a body and a hood; and a primary insert both surfaces of which are affixed to the body, the primary insert comprising a peelable seal. Upon tearing of the frangible border, the hood is separated from the body. In use, a straw contacts the primary insert and opens the peelable seal which has not been exposed to the environment until the hood is removed.
