  • Patent number: 3946451
Abstract: A limb support and the like is formed from a block of polyurethane foam having resilient characteristics, capable of permitting the passage of air and being of such configuration as to include a continuous open topped arcuate groove extending longitudinally along the length of the block for receiving, cradling and resiliently gripping the limb of a hospitalized patient to avoid rotation of the limb supported thereby.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 19, 1974
Date of Patent: March 30, 1976
    Inventor: Donald C. Spann
  • Patent number: 3939829
Abstract: A restraining cuff and the like is formed from a block of polyurethane foam having resilient characteristics, capable of permitting the passage of air and being of such configuration as to include a continuous substantially cylindrical internal wall extending longitudinally of the block for receiving the extremities of a hospitalized patient so as to provide a closed circumferential layer of resilient deformable material which may be connected as by a flat strap to the patient so as to distribute the weight of the extremity upon a substantial area of foam and cushion against bruises and other forms of injury to the patient.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 9, 1974
Date of Patent: February 24, 1976
    Inventor: Donald C. Spann
  • Patent number: 3938205
Abstract: A body positioner and the like is formed from a block of polyurethane foam having resilient characteristics capable of deformation and of permitting the passage of air and having an unsymmetrical pentagonal cross-section and having a length substantially greater than its width so that the block may be rotated on its major surfaces to provide for a variety of adjustable continuous positioning support surfaces along a major portion of the body of a patient while lying upon an operating table or examining table.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 19, 1974
Date of Patent: February 17, 1976
    Inventor: Donald C. Spann
  • Patent number: 3931654
Abstract: A device for positioning and supporting the lower leg and foot of a patient while lying on the side during periods of extended bedrest is formed from a block of polyurethane foam having resilient characteristics, and being of such configuration as to include a plurality of vertically extending sides between which an open arcuate groove extends longitudinally along the length of the block providing a cradle for the lower leg and a transverse slot extending across the vertical sides adjacent one end of the block for receiving a foot of a patient enabling the patient to lie on his side with the uppermost leg portion being positioned perpendicularly to the lower leg portion which is positioned perpendicularly to the foot.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 4, 1974
Date of Patent: January 13, 1976
    Inventor: Donald C. Spann
