    Abstract: A process for the reclaiming of used lubricating oils, particularly mixtures containing used oil from diesel engine crank cases, is provided to facilitate the separation of an oil phase from residual product in the production of an intermediate low-ash oil or a high-grade lube oil stock which method comprises: (a) contacting the used oil with an aqueous ammonium salt treating agent in the presence of a polyhydroxy compound, (b) removing a major portion of water, and (c) separating the oil phase from the resultant residual product. Optionally, (d) recovering the low-ash product of step (c) for use as a fuel oil, in grease formulations, or in the preparation of lubricating oil formulations. Optionally, the low-ash product of step (d) is (e) subjected to hydrotreating and thereafter (f) stripped.

    Abstract: In a process for reducing the concentration of ash-forming components in a lubricating oil wherein a feedstream comprising said lubricating oil and an aqueous ammonium salt treating agent is continuously passed into a first reaction zone wherein said treating agent reacts with ash-forming components in said oil and an effluent is continuously withdrawn from said first reaction zone and subjected to filtration after removal of water therefrom, the improvement comprising introducing said feedstream into said first reaction zone by passing said feestream through a centrifugal pump along with portions of the contents of said first reaction zone.

    Abstract: A process for the production of an essentially ash-free oil stock from a lubricating oil containing ash-forming components comprising(a) contacting said lubricating oil with an aqueous ammonium salt treating agent;(b) removing a major portion of the water from the mixture resulting from combining said aqueous solution and said lubricating oil;(c) heating at least a portion of the product resulting from step (b) at a temperature in the range of about 320.degree. to about 420.degree. C. for a period of time sufficient to decompose at least a portion of any ammonium salts of sulfonic acid and dialkyldithiophosphoric acid that are contained therein;(d) cooling the product from step (c) to a temperature in the range of about 150.degree. to about 180.degree. C.; and(e) separating the solids from the product of step (d), optionally with subsequent hydrotreating and stripping of the oil thus obtained.

    Abstract: An integrated process universally applicable for the reclaiming of used lubricating oils, regardless of the contaminants or previous additive systems contained therein, is provided to produce an intermediate low-ash oil or a high-grade lube oil stock which comprises (a) contacting the used oil with an aqueous ammonium salt treating agent, (b) removing a major portion of water, (c) separating the oil phase from the resulting residual product, (d) subjecting the resulting separated oil to hydrotreating and thereafter (e) stripping the resulting hydrotreated lube oil stock. Optionally the low-ash product of step (c) can be recovered for use as a fuel oil, in grease formulations, or in the preparation of some types of lubricating oil formulations.

    Abstract: A process for the separation and recovery of unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbons from admixture with saturated aliphatic hydrocarbons which comprises contacting such a mixture with a complexing agent comprising cuprous salts of sulfonic acids and dialkyl phosphates under such conditions that the unsaturated hydrocarbons are preferentially complexed with the cuprous salts. In one embodiment, olefins are separated from paraffins by using a cuprous sulfonate dissolved in an aromatic solvent to form a complex with the olefin. The olefin can be separated from the resulting complex and the cuprous salt recycled for reuse.

    Abstract: Furan concentrates containing deleterious unsaturated contaminants including sulfur compounds are purified prior to hydrogenation by contacting with zinc oxide either prior to or subsequent to separation of high boiling materials from the concentrate with the result that the furan concentrate is hydrogenated to high purity product comprising either furan and saturated materials or tetrahydrofuran and saturated materials with extended hydrogenation catalyst life. In a preferred embodiment, the furan concentrate is obtained as the by-product stream from hydrocarbon oxidative dehydrogenation processes and is subjected to distillation to remove therefrom materials boiling above about 80.degree. C prior to contacting with zinc oxide and hydrogenation.
