  • Patent number: 4789341
Abstract: A process for treating salmonid fish heads and skins utilizing an opening starting from a point generally near the fish's nose and ending at a point near the rear of the head. The opening facilitates access to the total underside of the headskin and the skull. It also permits the removal of the former from the latter. Placing the oil-containing skin in a solution of acetone, isopropyl alcohol, and water removes the oil and permits further use of the skin. The skull and skin can be reused as an undamaged, finished, mounted specimen, either alone or in combination with the other body parts of the fish.
