  • Patent number: 4564723
Abstract: A shielded ribbon cable is formed either by trimming a conventional ribbon cable to expose one or both edge conductors, and coating the cable by painting it with a conductive paint or covering it with an extruded conductive plastic layer, or by forming a ribbon cable of individually-coated wires, one or both edge conductors having a conductive coating, and subsequently painting it with a conductive paint or covering it with an extruded conductive plastic layer. One or both edge conductors thus serve as drain wires for the shield formed by the external covering of conductive paint or conductive extruded plastic.

  • Patent number: 4438999
Abstract: A termination block for ribbon cable (1) is disclosed, wherein the ends of the conductor wires in the ribbon cable form pin (12) of a connector for attaching the ribbon cable to a printed circuit board or the like. Insulation is removed from the end of the ribbon cable, and the individual conductors are placed in grooves (7a, 7b) in a base member, and retained by a cover member. A forming blade (30) is passed through apertures, aligned with the grooves, in both base and cover members to force a portion of conductor wire through the base member. In a preferred embodiment, the conductor wire is formed into a U-shape protruding from the base, which is then compressed to form a pin (12) to mate with holes in a printed circuit board or the like.

  • Patent number: 4359597
Abstract: This invention relates to a specific type of multi-conductor cable comprising a plurality of insulated wire conductor pairs, each of said insulated conductor pairs having alternating twist and straight portions and having alignment means for precisely aligning both the twisted portions and straight portions of said insulated conductor pairs in a predetermined, laterally spaced, relationship with respect to each other. The alignment means of the multi-conductor calbe of this invention comprises a laminated plastic sheet, initially formed from first and second plastic sheets or films, the laminated film having(a) a plurality of precisely spaced encapsulating ducts formed therein, each encapsulating duct containing either an individual, insulated, straight portion of a conductor or an insulated conductor twisted pair and(b) nip areas extending laterally between, and joining, each of said precisely spaced encapsulating ducts.

  • Patent number: 4034148
Abstract: This invention relates to a multi-conductor cable, which comprises a plurality of insulated wire conductor pairs, each of said insulated conductor pairs having alternating twisted portions and straight portions, and alignment means for aligning said insulated conductor pairs in a predetermined spaced relationship with respect to each other. Immediately adjacent twisted portions of each conductor pair are twisted in counter-rotation to each other, and a straight portion of conductor pairs between the said adjacent twisted portions is thereby achieved. The alignment means of the multi-conductor cable of this invention comprises a laminated plastic film, initially formed from first and second plastic films, the laminated film havingA. a plurality of spaced encapsulating ducts formed therein, each encapsulating duct containing at least one of said insulated conductor pairs and preventing untwisting of each of the insulated conductor pairs contained therein andB.
