  • Patent number: 9288651
Abstract: A system for dynamically coupling a special number call from a calling unit with at least one function-focused answerer includes: (a) at least one of an unlicensed mobile access network, a radio access network, and a public switched telephone network configured and situated for communicative coupling with the calling unit; (b) at least one network switch coupled with at least one of the networks; and (c) a special number call receiver coupled with the network switch. At least one of the special number call receiver and the network switch is configured for communicative coupling of the special number call with the at least one function-focused answerer unit. After receiving the special number call, the special number call receiver dynamically couples the special number call to an included function-focused answerer. Determining which function-focused answerer is an included function-focused answerer is made at the special number call receiver.

  • Patent number: 8954081
Abstract: A system for simultaneously routing a special number call from a mobile unit to a plurality of agencies includes (a) at least one of an unlicensed mobile access network and a radio access network communicating with the mobile unit; (b) a mobile switch coupled with at least one of the networks; (c) a call receiver coupled with the mobile switch; at least one of the call receiver and the mobile switch being coupled for communication with respective of the agencies; and (d) a locator coupled with at least one of the mobile switch and the call receiver. After receiving the special number call, the call receiver cooperates with at least one of the locator and the mobile switch to effect routing of the special number call to one or more included agency. Determination which agency is an included agency is made at the call receiver.

  • Patent number: 6823022
Abstract: A method for mitigating interference in impulse radio communication conveying a message from a transmitting station to a receiving station. The method comprises the steps of: (a) conveying the message in packets; (b) repeating conveyance of selected packets to make up a repeat package; and (c) conveying the repeat package a plurality of times at a repeat period greater than twice the occurrence period of the interference. The communication may convey a message from a proximate transmitter to a distal receiver, and receive a message by a proximate receiver from a distal transmitter.

  • Patent number: 5452242
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the product of a plurality of N numbers are disclosed. The preferred embodiment of the method includes the steps of: (1) determining a plurality of partial products made up of respective partial products for each combination of the digits of each of the N numbers, each partial product having a combinational significance established by the significance of each digit involved in the respective partial product; (2) providing a register having a plurality of register cells, each having a hierarchical significance; (3) accumulating selected of the partial products to produce accumulated values in specified of the register cells according to the following relationships: P[m,n,o,p, . . . ].fwdarw.[accumulates in].fwdarw.r[x]; x=(m+n+o+p+ . . . )-(N-1), where P[m,n,o,p, . . . ] represents the partial product; "m" represents the first digit's significance (m=1, 2, . . . ); "n" represents the second digit's significance (n=1, 2, . . . ); "o", "p", and " . . .

  • Patent number: 5424970
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for determining the product of N numbers in base Z. The method includes the steps of: (1) providing a first and succeeding storage arrays. The first storage array includes storage loci containing indicia of products of a first digit and a second digit. A first pointer is positioned by the first digit, a second pointer is positioned by the second digit, and the pointers cooperate to identify a first solution locus containing a first product. Succeeding storage arrays are associated with succeeding N numbers. The first and second pointers identify a subset of storage loci in a succeeding storage array. A third pointer associated with a third digit identifies a second solution locus among the subset. Each array's pointers cooperate to designate a next-succeeding array and a subset of storage loci, and each next-succeeding array has a pointer associated with a next digit to designate a next solution locus until N numbers are involved in the product.

  • Patent number: 5375413
Abstract: An improved apparatus for regulating air flow between a cooling unit and a compartment in a refrigeration system includes a first baffle element having an array of first air passages, and a second baffle element having an array of second air passages. The first baffle element and the second baffle element are slidingly engaged and are slidingly positionable with respect to each other. The first air passages and the second air passages cooperate to pass air through the apparatus when the first baffle element and the second baffle element are in a first position, and the first air passages and the second air passages cooperate to substantially block air from passing through the apparatus when the first baffle element and the second baffle element are in a second position. The apparatus further includes an actuator coupled with the first baffle element and the second baffle element for slidingly positioning the baffle elements, the actuator having an actuated state and an idle state.

  • Patent number: 5291430
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the product of a plurality of numbers are disclosed. The preferred embodiment of the method includes the steps of: (1) determining a plurality of respective partial products for each pair-combination of a first number's digits and a second number's digits; (2) providing a register having a plurality of register cells, each having a hierarchical significance; (3) accumulating selected of the respective partial products to produce accumulated values in specified of the register cells according to the following relationships: P.sub.m,n --[accumulates in].fwdarw.r.sub.x ; x=(m+n)-1, where "P.sub.m,n " represents the respective partial product; "m" represents the first number's significance (m=1, 2, . . . ); "n" represents the second number's significance (n=1, 2, . . . ); and "r.sub.

  • Patent number: 4599605
Abstract: An electrical encoding device for generating a coded input to an electrical apparatus, which coded input can indicate direction and speed of movement of an actuator associated with an electrical encoding device. The device is cheaper to manufacture since the layout of certain aspects of the device is greatly simplified, the simplified layout of certain aspects of the device reducing cost of manufacture of the device. The device is designed to easily accommodate various encoding parameters so that it may be manufactured in a family-program fashion with families of the device being capable of addressing a range of encoding parameters.
