Abstract: A method and system for controlling electrically powered devices, such as a light or a television, using a spoken command. The method and system of this invention desirably assists physically disabled persons with daily living, such as within an office or residence, allowing the person to operate lights, appliances, and other electrically powered devices by speaking. The system of this invention includes software that is able to receive complex, multi-step spoken commands and parse the commands into the appropriate command signals and route the command signals to the appropriate device.

Abstract: An automatic ice vending apparatus including a holding vessel formed with an aperture, the holding vessel being configured and dimensioned to receive and house ice pieces produced by an operatively associated ice supply, an ice metering device, and an ice transferring device at least partially disposed within the holding vessel that facilitates movement of ice pieces located therein in a first direction toward the aperture thereof, and movement of ice pieces in a second different direction from the aperture to the ice metering device, which is adapted and configured to meter a quantity of ice pieces into a readily transportable container. Methods and automated methods of delivering ice to consumer(s) are also included.

Abstract: An automated system and method for conducting a usability test. The system conducts the usability test and records events that occur on the computer screen in sync with both the video and audio of the user and creates a complete chronicle of events that occur behind the scenes in the applications and the operating system. The system, depending upon the settings specified in the configuration, also captures other input streams and then saves the complete recording of the usability test, along with all the desired events and captures, in a file format. The system allows a remote viewer to observe, in real time, the recording of the usability test and to set markers at critical moments during the recording which are to be recorded. The system also allows the manager or administrator to configure the preferences, import and analyze the usability test and recording files, and prepare presentation videos of the usability test based upon the analyzed criteria.

Abstract: An automatic ice vending apparatus including a holding vessel capable of storing a plurality of ice pieces to provide a constant supply of ice over an indeterminate period of time and an ice transferring device designed to transport a portion of the ice pieces through and out of an aperture in the holding vessel, and optionally, an upwardly directional ice transport device operably positioned to transport the ice pieces upwards to a weighing device, whereby the weighing device meters out a portion of ice pieces and deposits the portion into a readily transportable container. Methods of delivering containerized ice in situ are also included.

Abstract: A buried laser mirror used in high energy applications provides discrimination between optical signals of different wavelengths and comprises a ceramic substrate bonded to a faceplate that has a multicomponent reflective interlayer formed on the faceplate inner surface. The multicomponent reflective interlayer provides improved thermomechanical properties while maintaining the mirror's optical integrity and includes a metal reflective layer formed on the faceplate inner surface, a diffusion barrier layer fabricated on the metal reflective layer and a surface wetting layer formed on the diffusion barrier layer.
