  • Patent number: 4763893
Abstract: The present invention provides a pump assembly which is used to control the amount of extension and flexion of an inflatable pouch which is used to exercise the fingers, hand, or other limb of a patient. A diaphragm pump is provided together with a rotatable cycling valve and a metering control valve to supply air to the diaphragm pump and to cyclically inflate and deflate the pouch upon which a patient's hand is positioned. Manual overrides are provided to inflate and deflate the pouch to a desired degree, dependent upon the position of the hand of the patient as well as the amount of flexion and extension desired and which the patient is capable of. A method of cyclically inflating and deflating the pouch is also provided.

  • Patent number: 4671258
Abstract: A cyclical therapeutic joint exerciser is provided; it alternatively imparts a straightening and bending motion to a desired joint of a patient, e.g., a finger, elbow or knee. The device primarily consists of an inflatable pouch to which a spring steel member is removably attached. The spring or springs maintain the body portion in a flexed, non-extended position when the pouch remains uninflated. As the pouch is inflated, the springs mounted on the pouch, which are normally in a bent position, are extended along with the joint. When the pouch is deflated, the inherent biasing action of the springs causes the pouch and springs to bend, which brings the joint back to the flexed position.

  • Patent number: 4089004
Abstract: This invention is a corrugated horn antenna that is readily collapsible while not in use. A plurality of different sized annular metal rings are arranged in a sequence such that each ring is larger than the one that precedes it in the sequence. A plurality of thin flexible electrically conductive members attach successive metal rings together physically and connect them together electrically. Each flexible conductive member is attached to make electrical contact between the outside surface of a metal ring and the inside surface of an adjacent metal ring in the sequence.

  • Patent number: 3937215
Abstract: A cyclic therapeutic hand exerciser based on inflation and deflation of structural members, which alternately imparts a straightening and a bending motion to the fingers wherein as air pressure inflates a splint-like upper member the fingers are straightened and upon deflation of the splint-like member and inflation of a wrist pouch a flap is tightened pulling the fingertips down and curling the fingers in toward the palm.
