  • Patent number: 4362953
Abstract: A rotating cam member incrementally moves through a discrete plurality of angular positions to sequentially actuate in a predetermined pattern an array of switches controlling, for example, the operation cycles of a domestic appliance such as an automatic dishwasher or clothes washer. The rotating cam member is driven from one angular position to the next by a motor under the control of a programmable integrated circuit timer determining the dwell time of the cam member at each of its angular positions. Varying the dwell time of the cam member at each of its angular positions readily permits a more flexible and complex operating cycle sequence for the appliance being controlled as compared to prior art electromechanical timer devices.

  • Patent number: 4319101
Abstract: There is disclosed a sequential timer with a programmable dual frequency drive. The timer includes a relatively flat housing which mounts a circular, flat disk having arcuate switch actuating cams on at least one face thereof. A plurality of switches are mounted in the housing and are sequentially actuated by the arcuate cams upon rotation of the disc. Drive pawls are provided which coact with teeth on the periphery of the disk. One of said pawls is driven at a multiple of the frequency of the other pawl so that the disk is driven at a relatively rapid rate of advance when the disk is performing a switching function and at a relatively slow rate of advance during a steady operation state.

  • Patent number: 4149046
Abstract: A control mechanism for a sequential timer is disclosed. The mechanism includes an axially movable timer shaft which is associated with a timer shaft extension or control knob in such a way that initial movement of the control knob to select a particular position on the timing cycle will axially move the timer shaft to open a circuit in the timer. The open circuit prevents arcing of switch contacts and short pulsing of current through solenoids and motors.
