    Abstract: A polymeric roofing shingle composition is shown which includes (a) a rubber component present in the range from about 10-95% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition and (b) a polyolefin component present in the range from about 5-50% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition. A SBR/EVA closed cell rubber composition can be formulated which has a weight of less than 150 pounds per roofing square for ⅛ inch thickness and which is flame retardant at thicknesses of ⅛ inch and higher without the addition of separate flame retardant components.
