  • Patent number: 6273443
Abstract: A universal elevating leg rest assembly for a wheelchair. The leg rest assembly includes an upper hanger plate mounted on a front tube member of the wheelchair. A lower hanger plate is mounted on the front tube member in a vertically-aligned, spaced-apart relationship with the upper hanger plate. A universal bracket assembly is pivotally mounted to the upper and lower hanger plates and allows the elevating leg rest assembly to be positioned on either the left or right side of the wheelchair. A latch mechanism allows the universal bracket assembly to be locked in place or unlocked, swung-away and detached from the wheelchair, if desired. A calf clamp assembly is hingedly connected to the universal bracket assembly. A release mechanism including an arcuate-shaped cam surface frictionally engages an arcuate-shaped cam surface of the calf clamp assembly to lock the leg rest assembly at a selected vertical position.

  • Patent number: 6234576
Abstract: A universal swing-away detachable footrest bracket assembly for a wheelchair. The footrest bracket assembly includes an upper footrest tube assembly including an upper support plate mounted on a frame tube of the wheelchair, a lower support plate mounted on the frame tube in a vertically aligned, spaced-apart relationship with the upper support plate, an upper footrest support member having an upper flange and a lower flange in a vertically aligned, spaced-apart relationship with the upper flange. The upper and lower flanges are capable of being pivotally mounted on the upper support plate and the lower support plate, respectively. The footrest bracket assembly also includes a lower footrest tube assembly including a lower footrest support member connected to the upper footrest support member, an outwardly extending tube frame connected to a lower end of the lower footrest support member, and a footrest removably attached to the tube frame.

  • Patent number: 6224156
Abstract: A seat back recliner kit for attachment to a wheelchair which does not have a reclining seat back. A separate recliner mechanism is attached to each side frame for the wheelchair. Each recliner mechanism includes a rear wheel mounting bracket which attaches to the side frame for providing one or more rear wheel mounting locations spaced further to the rear of the wheelchair than the original rear wheel mounting locations. The new rear wheel mounting locations provide stability when the wheelchair is occupied with the seat back reclined. A pivoting seat back support is attached to the rear of each wheelchair side frame and the wheelchair seat back is attached to the pivoting seat back supports. An adjustable length brace extends between each seat back support and a rear wheel mounting block for adjusting the seat back angle. The brace is released by operating a hand lever while the seat back angle is adjusted and is locked when the lever is released.

  • Patent number: 6182982
Abstract: An adjustable height wheelchair having two rear wheels which are secured to a wheelchair frame at either of two different heights. The wheelchair has left and right front frame sections, each of which has two pairs of spaced apertures. The apertures in each pair have the same predetermined spacing. Two front caster wheels are mounted on lower ends of two tube members, respectively. Each tube member has a pair of spaced apertures with the predetermined spacing. Fasteners secure the pair of apertures on each tube member to a selected pair of apertures on a front frame section based on the mounting position for the rear wheels. Optionally, a footrest or a legrest may be mounted on one or both of the front tube members.

  • Patent number: 4306405
Abstract: A rotary mower having a drive assembly which provides automatic de-clutching and prompt braking of the mower blade to a stop when the device is left unattended, while the engine keeps running. A blade carrier is mounted on an anti-friction bearing at the lower end of the drive shaft. A driving hub is secured to the drive shaft at a level above the anti-friction bearing. A shiftable shell of upwardly facing bowl shape surrounds the drive hub and defines a clutch space. Mounted on the hub in the clutch space is a stack of clutch discs made up of a set of driving discs keyed to the hub and an interposed set of driven discs keyed to the interior of the shell. The blade holder is keyed to the lower surface of the shell. A set of springs on the blade holder urges the shell upwardly in a direction to apply clutching pressure to the discs for driving of the blade. The shell has an annular lip or flange around its upper edge having a friction surface thereon.
