Patent number: 6712035Abstract: Ignition delay in a diesel engine is reduced or eliminated by a fuel injector or igniter nozzle which includes energy supplying fuel conditioning means at the point of fuel injection into a cylinder. A preferred embodiment includes an electrically-conductive injection valve reciprocable in a conductive nozzle body and seatable on a valve seat to stop fuel flow through nozzle orifices. The injection valve is electrically insulated from the body except at its contact with the valve seat and is connected to an electrical charge, at least during opening of the valve. An electrical spark discharge is thus generated between the injection valve and the valve seat upon opening of the valve. Initially injected fuel passes through the arc and is conditioned by the spark energy to ignite almost immediately by compression ignition upon entering the engine cylinder and thus essentially eliminate diesel ignition delay.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2002Date of Patent: March 30, 2004Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Paul Gottemoller, Richard Wayne Tupek, Michael Barry Goetzke, Jerry Van Polen, David Corba, Wojciech T. Pierga, Donald E. Meyer, Richard J. Lill, Hassan Z. Hannon

Patent number: 6526735Abstract: A sturdy yet easy to assemble and disassemble T-shaped apparatus for ganging together a plurality of individually powered trail-behind mowers for towing by a tractor mower or other type all-terrain vehicle in cutting grass or similar vegetation. This design includes a tractor drawbar pivotally attached to a vehicle for towing having a pivot pin connected thereto at an opposite end to the vehicle, a center drawbar centrally attached to the tractor drawbar by a pivot hinge for connection with the pivot pin, and which is pivotally attached on either end by a left and a right mower drawbar attachment. The center drawbar also having a rear hitch centrally connected, as by welding, on an opposite side to the pivot hinge to pull additional mowers. The design features at least three pivot points to allow an even cut by a plurality of trail-behind mowers on bumpy, uneven terrain.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2001Date of Patent: March 4, 2003Inventor: Donald E. Patent number: 6205231Abstract: A moving object identification method (10) for identifying and tracing an object (20) within a video image (14) such that the object (20) can act as a hot spot (30) as for an interactive computer/user interface (70). A plurality of tags (28) define the edges (26) of the object (20) and a plurality of hot spot borders (32) define the hot spot (30) such that the hot spot (30) and the object (20) generally coincide. A physical tag (28b) is optionally used to position the tags (28). Sensitivity to disappearance of the edges (26) is adjustable according to the relative size of a subtag (68) to the corresponding tag (28).Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1995Date of Patent: March 20, 2001Assignee: Identive CorporationInventors: Anthony J. Patent number: 5133848Abstract: A water treatment device which is of simple construction and operation, and which can provide sufficient oxidant gas to disinfect drinking water for about 3,000 people. The device includes an electrolysis unit, a water flow circuit with constant water flow and a venturi which aspirates the oxidant gas produced by the electrolysis unit. A timer turns the electrolysis unit on and off to maintain oxidant gas levels substantial constant in the water supply and a valve is provided which is operated by a timer unit to replace water in the anode compartment of the electrolysis unit. When the electrolysis unit is shut-off for maintenance, the venturi is used to aspirate liquid from the electrolysis unit, thus avoiding operator contact with caustic chemicals to the extent possible.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1991Date of Patent: July 28, 1992Assignee: Oxi Generators, Inc.Inventor: Donald E. Patent number: 4230252Abstract: The present invention relates to a suspension member and the process for constructing the suspension member. The suspension member comprises a folded single sheet of metal which is enlarged at one end to couple to a wheel assembly and U-shaped at the other end to pivotally connect with a vehicle frame. The process of constructing the suspension member comprises the steps of stamping a single sheet from a piece of stock, deforming the sheet to form a pocket defining the enlarged end, folding the sheet to form a substantially rectangular cross section and welding the seam between adjoining edges of the folded sheet. In order to support a spring assembly a tube extends through the folded sheet and cooperates with the spring assembly to attach the latter to the folded sheet.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1978Date of Patent: October 28, 1980Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventors: Donald E. Meyer, James J. Colpaert, Frederick R. Fischer, Michael E. Gatt, David P. Koehler

Patent number: 3998384Abstract: An aspirator for a pneumatic thermostat including a slit restriction which provides a relatively thin and wide jet of air. The large surface area of the flat jet entrains a substantial volume of ambient air and results in a large ambient air flow past the thermostat. The slit restriction is formed either of a shallow channel in a portion of the aspirator housing or of a cutaway portion in a relatively thin sheet of material interposed between two housing halves of the aspirator.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1973Date of Patent: December 21, 1976Assignee: Honeywell Inc.Inventors: Ronald L. Martin, Donald E. Meyer
