  • Patent number: 5466756
Abstract: Aliphatic alcohol, and high boiling point hydroxy compound additives are added to poly methyl methacrylate to improve the ultraviolet radiation resistance of the polymer. The additives may be incorporated into the poly methyl methacrylate by including the additives with the monomers prior to polymerization. Alternatively, the additives may be incorporated into the poly methylmethacrylate by addition to polymerized methyl methacrylate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 15, 1994
Date of Patent: November 14, 1995
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company
Inventors: Donald E. Roach, Paul J. Keating
  • Patent number: 5258423
Abstract: The present invention is directed to methacrylic polymer compositions which may be used to form plastic products which have increased resistance to discoloration by sterilizing radiation, such as gamma or electron beam irradiation. The compositions, free from conventional ultraviolet stabilizers, contain .alpha.-hydroxyacids or esters thereof.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 12, 1993
Date of Patent: November 2, 1993
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company
Inventors: Charles C. Crabb, Robert A. Wanat, Paul J. Keating, Donald E. Roach
