Donald E. Rubis has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Publication number: 20040260035
Abstract: The strain-hardening characteristics and melt rheology of thermoplastic resins including crystallizable polyester resins are modified by blending with a dendrimeric modifier. Blends comprising PET resins and up to about 2 wt. % of a dendrimer have increased melt strengths and exhibit a reduction in strain-hardening parameter, reflected in a lower strain level at the onset of strain hardening. Blends further comprise PET resins and a component comprising a ratio of dendrimer modifier to purified terephthalic acid.

  • Publication number: 20040109983
Abstract: Improvements in compositions, composites, and methods for construction of weather resistant and insulated roofs are disclosed. The type of roofs to which these improvements apply are typically known as built up roofs. Built up roofs feature a substrate as an inner layer normally adjacent to and attached to the exterior of an unimproved roof surface. This invention is directed to improved foamed resin substrates used in such roof constructions. Alternating layers of hot asphalt and roofing felt are applied to the foam substrate layer. In prior art roofs, the foamed resin substrates could not withstand the direct application of hot molten asphalt to the foam surface which necessitated use of an isolation layer between the foamed resin layer and the first asphalt layer. This invention discloses compositions, composites, and methods involving direct application of hot asphalt to specially formulated and thermally resistant polyester foam resin substrate layers at temperatures up to 500° F.

  • Patent number: 6462107
Abstract: Compositions for forming polymeric layers useful in the manufacture printed wiring boards and other electrical interconnecting devices are disclosed. The compositions typically are processable in aqueous base and can be made photosensitive with the addition of a positive acting photosensitive compound. The compositions are particularly useful in the manufacture of laminable films used to make printed wiring boards. Multilayer printed wiring boards made using such films, and methods for making and using the films and boards, also are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5344852
Abstract: Water blown, thermosetting unsaturated polyester-polyurethane hybrid foam compositions are formed by the reaction of an A side composition and a B side composition. The A side composition comprises a polyfunctional isocyanate compound and a free radical initiator. The B side composition comprises a mixture of: (i) an ethylenically unsaturated monomer solution having dissolved therein about 30-90 weight percent of a polyester polyol having at least one ethylenically unsaturated group per molecule which has predominantly hydroxyl end groups; (ii) an amine compound having two or more primary or secondary amine groups in an amount effective to react with the A side composition to form small urea domains finely dispersed within a continuous polyester-polyurethane hybrid phase; and (iii) about 25 to about 150 equivalents water based on 100 equivalents of active hydrogen in the B side.
