  • Patent number: 4670609
Abstract: An improved process for the manufacture of a dihydric phenol such as hydroquinone wherein a dialkylbenzene is oxidized to a dihydroperoxide, the dihydroperoxide being extracted from the oxidate by a caustic solution, leaving an organic phase for recycle to the oxidizer, the improvement comprising decreasing the caustic concentration in the recycle organic phase and increasing the dihydroperoxide concentration of the recycle phase by washing the organic phase from the caustic extract with an aqueous phase removed from the oxidizer, separating the organic phase from the aqueous phase and subsequently introducing the organic phase to the oxidizer.

  • Patent number: 4650224
Abstract: An apparatus for discharging sewage from a holding tank on a travel trailer or the like to a sewer inlet includes a flexible inlet coupling section for connecting to the discharge fitting on the holding tank, an L-shaped fixed outlet coupling section for insertion into the sewer opening, and a telescoping tube section connected to the inlet and outlet coupling sections. The joints or connection points to the flexible inlet coupling sections are sealed by hose clamps, and the connection between the tube sections and the connection between one end of the tube sections and the outlet coupling section are sealed with locking couplings having "O" rings. The flexible coupling and telescoping section accommodate various positions of the holding tank relative to the sewer inlet. A rigid tube section can be inserted between the telescoping tube section and the outlet coupling section to further increase the length of the sewage discharge apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4635280
Abstract: A bit synchronizer for Miller-encoded data includes a phase-locked loop for synchronizing the Miller-encoded data to the clock signal necessary for proper decoding thereof. The phase-locked loop includes a monostable multivibrator that is triggered on each transition of the Miller-encoded data. The monostable multivibrator controls the operation of two flip-flops that produce time-varying signals when the clock is leading or lagging the Miller-encoded data. The flip-flop output signals are constant when the clock is in phase with the Miller-encoded data. The flip-flop output signals are integrated, and the resultant signal controls a voltage-controlled oscillator so that the clock signal is phase coherent with the Miller-encoded data signal.

  • Patent number: 4528413
Abstract: Diisopropenylbenzene is a monomer that can be used in the preparation of many useful polymers and is also a chemical intermediate that can be employed in a number of chemical processes. Diisopropenylbenzene is normally synthesized by the dehydrogenation of diisopropylbenzene. Unfortunately in this dehydrogenation process a number of olefinic impurities are produced as by-products. This invention discloses a process for the separation of diisopropenylbenzene from these impurities and for recycling some of the impurities.

  • Patent number: 4502259
Abstract: A combination of a window glass with a trim strip intended to conceal the juncture between the window glass and the panels which define a body opening in a vehicle is disclosed in which the trim strip is formed with an inwardly projecting portion which is adhesively secured to the upper surface of the window glass adjacent its edge, an outwardly projecting portion which is intended to overlie the vehicle body panels adjacent the body opening therein, and a centrally located downwardly projecting positioning leg which bears against the edge of the window glass to correctly position the trim strip with respect to the glass. In preferred practice a rubber dam is adhered to the undersurface of the window glass adjacent its edge and the outer face of the positioning leg is formed with one or more protuberances which interlock with a sealant which is carried by the flanged body panels of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4281412
Abstract: Bit timing references are derived at a receiver for a carrier modulated by OQPSK. A carrier is transmitted with a constant reference phase modulation during a first interval. During a subsequent, second interval the carrier is transmitted with rotational phase modulation representing binary bit values so that orthogonal components phase modulate the carrier with a predetermined bit sequence. A receiver responds to the constant phase modulated carrier to lock the frequency and phase of a phase lock loop oscillator of a carrier recovery loop. Synchronization at the receiver is achieved in response to a reception of the rotational phase modulation, while maintaining the frequency and phase lock. A carrier recovery loop of the receiver is activated to a decision directed operation after bit synchronization has been achieved.

  • Patent number: 4037741
Abstract: A bale loading, transporting and feeding apparatus of a type for handling large bales of hay. A two-wheeled trailer is provided with an elongated member having two or more shaft mechanisms rigidly attached thereto. The shaft mechanisms are perpendicularly disposed with respect to the elongated member and are non-parallel with respect to each other for facilitating the engaging of each bale while the previously engaged bale is lifted off of the ground. A feed rack is connected to the trailer and is selectively movable between a vertical loading and transporting position and a horizontal feeding position.

  • Patent number: 3996724
Abstract: Packaging apparatus for closing and sealing the open end of a carton of thermoplastic coated paperboard material or the like. A rotatable drum has a cylindrical wall that supports a plurality of carton closing and sealing units. During rotation of the drum, open ended cartons are successively picked-up at a carton receiving station and are carried by the drum to a carton delivery station. During the movement of the carton from the receiving to the delivery station, the open end of the carton is folded to a closed condition and the layers of the closed carton end are vibration welded together by one of the carton closing and sealing units. Each carton closing and sealing unit includes a pair of jaws movable between an open and closed position with respect to each other, a latching member for locking the jaws in their closed position, and a vibration welding device.
