Patent number: 7778995Abstract: One implementation provides a method to provide information associated with a previously designed component having a geometry that is similar to a geometry of a source component. In this implementation, the method includes obtaining a first set of coefficients for a non-invertible representation of the geometry of the source component, and comparing the first set of coefficients to a second set of coefficients for a non-invertible representation of the geometry of the previously designed component. If the first set of coefficients matches the second set of coefficients according to a threshold of similarity, the method further includes providing a search result associated with the previously designed component.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2007Date of Patent: August 17, 2010Assignee: Iowa State University Research Foundation, Inc.Inventors: Abir Ziyad Qamhiyah, Donald Flugrad

Patent number: 7492374Abstract: One implementation provides a method for processing a first representation of a geometry of a component that is stored in a computer file. In this implementation, the method includes analyzing the first representation of the geometry of the component, and, upon analysis, generating a second, non-invertible representation of the geometry of the component from the first representation, the second representation being at least partially independent of a rotation or a translation of the component in space.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2004Date of Patent: February 17, 2009Assignee: Iowa State University Research Foundation, Inc.Inventors: Abir Ziyad Qamhiyah, Donald Flugrad

Patent number: 6937227Abstract: The primary purpose of this thesis is to explain a device which could be used as an alternative for a computer mouse. Instead of using a regular roller found in an ordinary mouse, the device uses a pressure sensitive sensor to control the computer cursor on the monitor. The device is developed mainly for a personal computer with Universal Serial Bus (USB) capability. The computer should have an operating system of Microsoft Windows 98 or newer. The device does not need any additional driver, and it has a USB hot-plug-and-play feature. It uses a Human Interface Device (HID) driver provided by Windows. The device mainly has two buttons (right and left) and is approximately 4? by 3? by 2? in size. Users can press their fingers on to the device to control the cursor. The device will be small enough to be fit inside a person's palm. The area has four pressure sensors used to move the cursor to the left, right, upward and downward.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2003Date of Patent: August 30, 2005Assignee: Iowa State University Research Foundation, Inc.Inventors: Abir Ziyad Qamhiyah, Donald Flugrad, Hekmat Tahseen Qamhieh
