  • Patent number: 6251228
Abstract: A waste photopolymer plate washout fluid solvent distillation apparatus includes a single enclosure enclosing a waste washout fluid container, a recovered solvent container, and a distillation unit in which waste washout is distilled by application of heat and vacuum pressure to the waste washout, and by supplying a metered supply of a surrogate solvent to the distilled waste washout as a desired solvent is distilled from the waste washout. The apparatus, by supplying the surrogate solvent to the waste washout as the desired solvent is distilled from the waste washout, enables a greater percentage of the desired solvent to be recovered from the waste washout than has been heretofore possible with prior art apparatus, and also enables the waste washout to be disposed of as a liquid.

  • Patent number: 5229010
Abstract: An apparatus and method for the efficient removal of hazardous and nonhazardous volatile and semi-volatile organic materials from contaminated materials includes an evaporation/vacuum heating chamber that communicates with a microwave generator, a vacuum pressure system, a contaminated material in-feed system, and a residue removal system. The evaporation/vacuum heating chamber is fed with successive batches or a continuous supply of contaminated material and subjects the contaminated material to microwave energy and vacuum pressure to draw off volatile and semi-volatile material from the contaminated material as vapor and reduce the contaminated material to a dry residue. The vapors are drawn from the chamber by the vacuum pressure system and are condensed and collected. The dried material residue is removed from the chamber by the residue removal system and is also collected for later disposal or reuse.

  • Patent number: 5003143
Abstract: An apparatus for separating hazardous volatile and semi-volatile organic materials from contaminated solid waste by-products is comprised of an evaporation/vacuum heating chamber that is designed to hold a sample of the solid waste product on a batch basis, a microwave generator that subjects the sample of waste product to microwave energy, an electrical resistance type heating system that heats portions of the waste product sample adjacent the container holding the sample that are not subjected to the full strength of the microwaves, and an evacuation/condensing system that draws off volatile vapors distilled from the waste sample and condenses and collects the hazardous volatile organic materials, leaving a resultant waste product cake, dry and virtually free of volatile matter in the evaporation/vacuum heating chamber.

  • Patent number: 4540471
Abstract: A solvent reclaiming unit has a still for distillation of contaminated solvents to recover clean solvent from the solvent vapor. The still has a tapered or conical bottom heat exchange surface surrounded by a heat source. The still has scrapers which wipe the heat exchange surface to prevent scaling of the heat exchange surface. The scrapers are driven during the distillation process by an external motor and reducer. The contact of the scrapers with the heat exchange surface is adjustable from outside of the still to maintain wiping contact. The wiping portion or blades of the scrapers may be formed of brass or other soft material attached to a harder material, such as a spring stainless steel. A safety stop is provided in the interior of the vessel so that the blades may not be adjusted to the point that the harder steel comes in contact with the heat exchange surface.
