  • Patent number: 4806590
Abstract: Aqueous-based sealant composition comprising at least one vinylidene chloride copolymer which has modal molecular weight Mp of at least 200,000, wherein the composition has Tg below 0.degree. C. The vinylidene chloride copolymer preferably includes polymerized units of an internally plasticizing comonomer and an unsaturated carboxylic acid. The composition preferably includes an external plasticizer and a filler material (particularly untreated calcium carbonate).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 20, 1987
Date of Patent: February 21, 1989
    Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries PLC
Inventors: John C. Padget, Donald H. McIlrath
  • Patent number: 4783498
Abstract: Aqueous latex compositions for use as contact adhesives comprising a mixture of an amorphous copolymer A and an amorphous copolymer B and preferably a tackifying resin where A comprises units of vinylidene chloride, an internally plasticizing comonomer like 2-ethylhexyl acrylate or n-butyl acrylate, and optionally a copolymerizable acid, and has Tg in the range -50.degree. to <0.degree. C. and B comprises units of vinylidene chloride, an alkyl acrylate and/or methacrylate or certain other comonomers, and optionally a copolymerizable acid, and has a Tg in the range 0.degree. to 80.degree. C., and wherein copolymer A has a modal molecular weight Mp within the range 100,000 to 700,000.

  • Patent number: 4783499
Abstract: Aqueous latex contact-adhesive compositions comprising at least one vinylidene chloride copolymer comprising polymerized units of vinylidene chloride and at least one internally plasticizing comonomer which may be provided at least in part by at least one alkyl (meth)acrylate having 1 to 12 carbon atoms in the alkyl group (preferably n-butyl acrylate), said copolymer having a modal molecular weight Mp within the range 100,000 to 700,000 and Tg within the range -50.degree. to 10.degree. C., said composition providing contactable layers after drying. The composition preferably includes a tackifying resin.
