Patent number: 6197957Abstract: Provided is a process for preparing carbonylated derivatives of amino- and haloamino-1,3,5-triazines by contacting the 1,3,5-triazine, carbon monoxide and a metal catalyst system containing a metal promoter for promoting carbonylation, at a temperature carbon monoxide pressure and length of time sufficient to carbonylate at least a portion of the amino and/or haloamino groups of the 1,3,5-triazine. The product resulting from contacting these components is an isocyanate functional 1,3,5-triazine; however, the carbamate functional derivative can be readily produced by contacting these components in the further presence of a hydroxy compound, or by post-reacting the isocyanate functional product with such hydroxy compound.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1993Date of Patent: March 6, 2001Assignee: Cytec Technology Corp.Inventors: Peter S. Forgione, Ram B. Gupta, Lawrence A. Flood, Donald H. Valentine

Patent number: 5260485Abstract: Alkylphosphines are made by a reaction of gaseous phosphine and the corresponding gaseous olefin in contact with at least one non-oxidizing acid catalyst. Products produced thereby are alkylphosphines which contain substantially no metallic or oxygenating impurities. The process is a continuous process and employs a mineral acid catalyst either in solid form or as a liquid supported on a solid, inert material.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1992Date of Patent: November 9, 1993Assignee: American Cyanamid CompanyInventors: C. Joseph Calbick, Mark A. Kuck, Donald H. Valentine

Patent number: 4705883Abstract: The invention providess a process for carbonylating a nitrogen-containing organic compound, selected from the group consisting of nitro, nitroso, azo, and azoxy compounds, by reacting said nitrogen-containing organic compound, with carbon monoxide, wherein the improvement comprises the step of:(a) reacting said nitrogen-containing compound with carbon monoxide, in the presence of a primary amine and a catalyst, essentially free of redox active metal components selected from the group consisting of rhodium and ruthenium.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1986Date of Patent: November 10, 1987Assignees: Catalytica Associates, Haldor TopsoeInventors: John H. Grate, David R. Hamm, Donald H. Valentine
-
Patent number: 4629804Abstract: This invention relates to a process for preparing urethanes by reacting a solution of a nitrogen-containing organic compound and a hydroxyl-containing organic compound with carbon monoxide in the presence of a ruthenium catalyst. The selectivity of this process is increased by the use of methanol instead of various other alkanols, e.g. ethanol. Preferably the catalyst is a halide-free ruthenium catalyst, e.g. a ruthenium carbonyl complex.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1985Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: Catalytica AssociatesInventors: John H. Grate, David R. Hamm, Donald H. Valentine, Jr.
