  • Patent number: 9252966
Abstract: A method and system for managing an instrumentation device include accessing an image of the instrumentation device. Based on the image, an identity for the instrumentation device is determined. The identity is used to register the instrumentation device by configuring a gateway at a multimedia content distribution network client location to access and communicate with the instrumentation device. The identity of the instrumentation device and the gateway may be stored for future configuration of the gateway.

  • Publication number: 20150365759
Abstract: A system for exploiting visual information for enhancing audio signals via source separation and beamforming is disclosed. The system may obtain visual content associated with an environment of a user, and may extract, from the visual content, metadata associated with the environment. The system may determine a location of the user based on the extracted metadata. Additionally, the system may load, based on the location, an audio profile corresponding to the location of the user. The system may also load a user profile of the user that includes audio data associated with the user. Furthermore, the system may cancel, based on the audio profile and user profile, noise from the environment of the user. Moreover, the system may include adjusting, based on the audio profile and user profile, an audio signal generated by the user so as to enhance the audio signal during a communications session of the user.

  • Publication number: 20150364139
Abstract: A system for sensor enhanced speech recognition is disclosed. The system may obtain visual content or other content associated with a user and an environment of the user. Additionally, the system may obtain, from the visual content, metadata associated with the user and the environment of the user. The system may also include determining, based on the visual content and metadata, if the user is speaking. If the user is determined to be speaking, the system may obtain audio content associated with the user and the environment. The system may then adapt, based on the visual content, audio content, and metadata, one or more acoustic models that match the user and the environment. Once the one or more acoustic models are adapted and loaded, the system may enhance a speech recognition process or other process associated with the user.

  • Patent number: 8593286
Abstract: The subject disclosure provides a system and method for wireless monitoring of sports activities. A subject participating in a sports activity is associated with biometric sensors which measure the subject's body movements. In one aspect, the system includes a sensor for continuously gathering biometric data from a subject performing a sports activity where the biometric data associated with the body movements of the subject. A wireless transceiver coupled to the sensor transmits the biometric data and a database engine receives the biometric data from the wireless transceiver and providing real-time feedback. The real-time feedback associated with the biometric data from the subject is characterized by instructions associated with the sports activity.

  • Publication number: 20110130885
Abstract: A method and system for managing the provisioning of energy to or from mobile energy storage devices are disclosed. For example, the method receives a current intended energy use for a mobile energy storage device associated with a user, and analyzes whether the current intended energy use is achievable based upon a current energy state of the mobile energy storage device. The method then provides a recommendation to an endpoint device associated with the user in response to the current intended energy use.

  • Patent number: 5625697
Abstract: A microphone selection process is made relatively constant in terms of processing requirements through use of combination values which provide a measure of the quality of the speech signal received in each one of a plurality of microphones. Such combination values are derived in a manner which provides an indication of which one of the plurality of microphones, that provide area coverage for a conference room, for example, best receives the speech signal. In operation, the microphone selection process selects the microphone which best receives the speech signal by comparing a signal energy value received in each one of the microphones to that received in each of the other microphones. More specifically, pairs of microphones are examined, to determine the direction of origin for the speech, by seeking a microphone pair where the speech is strong in the microphone directed toward the source of speech, and weak in an associated microphone directed away from the source of speech.

  • Patent number: 5561737
Abstract: A voice-actuated switching system connects one or more microphones to an audio line in accordance with the output signal levels from each of the microphones. To reduce the effects of degradation of speech signals due to reverberation and noise pickup, the switching system uses directional microphones housed in a circular enclosure and arranged in a conference array configuration with response patterns aimed outwardly from the center of the enclosure. The switching system also uses a voting algorithm to select for activation the appropriate microphones indicative of the position of one or more people speaking and a variable weighting factor for gradually turning on or off the signal from each activated microphone that is coupled to the audio line. Typically one microphone will be selected to monitor a person speaking. Since its response pattern is normally pointed in the direction of the person speaking, it is less sensitive to speaker echo due to reverberation.

  • Patent number: 5224151
Abstract: A personal communicator handset is designed to operate as both a handset and as a speakerphone and to automatically switch between the two modes based on distance between the handset and the user's ear. This distance is determined by an infrared range detection unit built into the handset.
