  • Patent number: 6699140
Abstract: A golf putter head has a central indented concave face portion in which a face plate is either directly formed or installed after it is formed. The face plate has a honeycomb structure with three layers formed from a soft polymer material. The outer or top layer has a honeycomb corrugated construction with equally spaced cells and fits into the cavity of the central portion. The second layer which is similar in configuration to the top layer is immediately beneath the outer layer in abutment there against. The third layer which abuts against the surface of the concave face plate is in the form of a plurality of pins which extend through the cells of the other two layers. Toe and heel portions are removably attached to the opposite sides of the head face portion by means of aligning pins and threaded bolts.

  • Patent number: 6450894
Abstract: A golf putter head has a central portion made of a relatively light weight material such as a light alloy of extruded aluminum or extruded plastic alloy. To further reduce the weight of the central portion, this portion may be extruded and the face plate formed from a light polymer or rubber material. The toe and heel portions of the head are separately formed of a relatively heavy material such as sintered tungsten or tungsten copper. The toe and heel portions are similar to each other and are attached to the central portion by means of pins which fit into opposing holes formed in the ends of the central portion and the toe and heel end portions as well as well as screws which fit through apertures in the end portions and engage threads formed in the central portion. Employing a central portion which is much lighter in weight than the end portions provides an anti-twisting motion of inertia to the club head.

  • Patent number: 6247636
Abstract: A golf club head is formed from two separate pieces. One of such pieces constitutes the face plate while the other piece constitutes the sole plate and the top crown of the club head. The pieces are welded together to form a hollow shell. The sole plate and the top crown are connected together with a hinge. These hinged pieces are joined in a closed position in a nest die and spot welded together. The face plate is then seam welded to the sole plate and the top crown in an argon chamber to form an integral unit.

  • Patent number: 6089994
Abstract: A weighting insert has a plurality of weights installed therein which are arranged in a circular configuration. Certain ones of these weights are made of a different material than the others, such material having a different density, thus making for a substantially different weight. A golf club head has a receptacle in its sole. This receptacle has a plurality of apertures arranged in a circular configuration formed therein. The insert has a key formed therein which is adapted to fit into any one of said apertures. The weighting device can be rotated to position the key in a selected one of the apertures and the insert removably attached to the sole in this selected position. In this manner the weighting of the sole of the golf club head can be varied, as desired. The weights can either be permanentaly installed in the insert or can be removable for selective positioning.

  • Patent number: 5192079
Abstract: A golf ball characterized by enhanced flight distance and enhanced aerodynamic symmetry, the ball having a generally spherical surface with dimple patterns thereon, the improvement comprising between about 75% and 85% of the ball spherical surface occupied by the dimples; there being smaller and larger dimples, all of which have diameters within the range of about 0.110 to 0.150 inches. Multiple great circle arcs on the ball surface define six-sided spherical surface hexagons on axially opposite polar zones. Smaller dimples within each such hexagons are grouped in clusters of four, symmetrically about an axis of the ball centrally intersecting the hexagons.

  • Patent number: 5094383
Abstract: A golf club head has a main body portion formed by an investment casting of material such as stainless steel, beryllium copper, titanium, and aluminum. The face plate of the head is formed of a forged metal, such as forged carbon steel, this plate being welded to the face portion of the casting to form an integral assembly therewith. The forged metal faceplate affords a more solid impact and feel to the club which provides better control. Also, it has very high strength. Preferably, the head consists of cast stainless steel, and the face plate of forged stainless steel, both steels being of the same composition.
