Patent number: 11261658Abstract: A perimeter light blockout system for minimizing light leakage between light gaps such as, for example, between the sides of a covering (e.g., shade) of an architectural-structure covering and the interior side surfaces of a window frame, or between the covering and the outer surface of an interior wall is disclosed. The perimeter light blockout system including a light blocking device and a mounting element for coupling the light blocking device to the interior side surface of the window frame, or the outer surface of the interior wall. The light blocking device may include rear and front channel members. The mounting element may be a mounting extrusion. Alternatively, the mounting element may be a spring clip. In use, the light blocking device may be adapted and configured so as not to contact the covering as the covering moves between extended and retracted positions. The mounting element may include a degree of adjustment so that the light blocking device may be aligned with an out-of-skew window frame.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 2020Date of Patent: March 1, 2022Assignee: Hunter Douglas, Inc.Inventors: Patrick E. Foley, Paul Josephson, Mark Schwandt, Donald J. Clark, Wendell B. Colson, Paul G. Swiszcz, Stephen T. Wisecup, Benjamin J. Madden, Fred Bould, Kwan Hon Anson Cheung, Byron Lee

Patent number: 11168519Abstract: A mounting assembly for mounting an architectural-structure covering to an architectural structure, in particular a movable structure is disclosed. In use, the mounting assembly is used in combination with the architectural-structure covering so that the architectural-structure covering can be movable between a retracted position and an extended position. All the while, the mounting assembly constrains movement of the covering portion of the architectural-structure covering so that, for example, in use, when the mounting assembly is mounted to a movable structure, the covering is prevented from moving relative to (e.g., away from) the architectural structure when the movable structure is opened and closed.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2018Date of Patent: November 9, 2021Assignee: HUNTER DOUGLAS INC.Inventors: Patrick E. Foley, Donald J. Clark, Nicholas P. Andrews

Patent number: 7832450Abstract: A lift cord system for operating a retractable covering for architectural openings includes at least one cord loop which extends from a tassel through a fabric for the covering where it is slidably connected to the bottom rail for adjustment of the desired maximum spacing of the top rail and bottom rail and the orientation of the bottom rail relative to the top rail so the rails can be easily maintained in a parallel relationship. The cord loop is also anchored to the bottom rail at a separate location in a manner so as to fix the maximum separation between the top and bottom rails so the covering desirably fits the size of the architectural opening in which it is mounted. Alternative embodiments include top down/bottom up coverings and coverings including a middle rail in addition to top and bottom rails.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2008Date of Patent: November 16, 2010Assignee: Hunter Douglas Inc.Inventors: Clark Brace, Donald J. Clark, Brian M. Hoffmann, Ronald Holt

Publication number: 20100095535Abstract: A cutter tool for cutting the innermost cell of two concentric cells as found in cell-in-cell coverings for architectural openings includes an elongated main body with lateral side extensions defining a space into which an inner cell of a dual cell can pass. Within that space, cutting blades are positioned along opposite sides of the main body of the tool so that relative movement of the tool along a dual cell cuts the inner cell along opposite sides thereof without damaging an outer concentric cell so that an anchor bar can be positioned within the dual cell in engagement with the outer cell for connecting the outer cell to an upper rail or bottom rail of the covering.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 11, 2008Publication date: April 22, 2010Applicant: HUNTER DOUGLAS INC.Inventors: Terry L. Akins, Donald J. Clark, Wayne R. Rayman

Patent number: 6134567Abstract: A printer device driver system includes a relatively simplistic kernel mode device driver, KM.sub.-- DRIVER. KM.sub.-- DRIVER supplies limited functionality for basic Device Driver Interface, DDI, operations compatible with O/S kernel mode components. Separate reporting of graphics objects data and text data is made. The device driver is now divided into: a kernel mode analysis segment KM.sub.-- TEXT and a user mode text resolution generator UM.sub.-- TEXT segment. A user mode driver, UM.sub.-- DRIVER, is provided for receiving DDI coded instructions. In essence, UM.sub.-- TEXT subroutine ignores reported resolution and renders text in any resolution up to and including the highest possible resolution for the printer apparatus provided. A set of text data output from the application and O/S is reported to KM.sub.-- DRIVER in a fixed resolution. Text data is received with DDI text print requests. When a font is not recreatable, rendering is performed at the fixed resolution and output to the printer.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1998Date of Patent: October 17, 2000Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: Raj Nakkiran, Donald J. Patent number: 5131199Abstract: A window system has matching groups of window sashes which enable the creation of a great number of different window array patterns using modular, interchangeable sashes. The sashes have light-dividing mullions which intersect with the sash frame at a particular level or width point such that another sash when positioned adjacent to the sash will have its mullion or mullions positioned to continue the same mullion line through the two sashes. In preferred embodiments the sashes are all rectangular, some groups with linear mullions and some groups with diagonal, arcuate or elliptical mullions.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1990Date of Patent: July 21, 1992Assignee: V.I.E.W.S., Inc.Inventor: Donald J.
