  • Patent number: 9010365
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for filtering fluid in a breather assembly and providing uncontaminated fluid to a reservoir. The breather allows in-take fluid traveling through a first flow path to be filtered before entering the reservoir through a first directional valve. The breather also allows exhaust fluid traveling through a second flow path, separate from the first flow path, to exit through a second directional valve.

  • Publication number: 20100282330
Abstract: A plug for a fluid system includes an externally-threaded body and an enlarged head at an end of the body. The body has an internal cavity with a) a first fluid passage into the cavity from another end of the body, and b) at least one radial or axial relief passage into the cavity fluidly separate from the first passage. A burst piston is retained within the cavity and normally blocks fluid flow from the first passage to the relief passage. The piston has a geometry such that a portion of the piston will rupture and separate from the remainder of the piston at a predetermined pressure differential across the first and relief passages, and allow fluid to flow from the first passage to the relief passage. The relief passage has a geometry to prevent the separated portion of the piston from passing through the relief passage.

  • Patent number: 7237682
Abstract: A filter assembly comprising a housing with a threaded open end, a filter element, and a cover assembly. The filter element includes a media ring and a pair of end caps, one of which includes outwardly-projecting fingers. The cover assembly includes a cover member, and a sleeve with recesses in an outer surface. A collar member surrounds the sleeve and is freely rotationally supported by the cover member. The collar member includes i) a threaded portion on an outer surface for screwing the cover member onto the housing, and ii) recesses in an inner surface. The collar member is rotatable relative to the sleeve such that the recesses in the collar member and in the sleeve can be aligned, and the fingers can be inserted therebetween, to rotationally lock the collar member relative to the sleeve and to retain the element with the cover.

  • Patent number: 6887376
Abstract: A hydraulic system includes a storage tank, a cover assembly and a filter assembly for filtering hydraulic fluid, gasses and air. The tank includes an opening and an attachment ring bounding the opening. The cover assembly has an inlet port and is removably connected to the attachment ring to support and enclose the filter assembly in the tank. The filter assembly includes a filter element having a filter media ring for filtering hydraulic fluid, and an annular breather filter surrounding the filter media ring at one end of the ring for filtering vent gas and air. The filter element is supported in a diffuser tube received in the tank opening. The diffuser tube includes a stand-off ring with a convoluted groove or channel to provide a vent path between the diffuser tube and the tank opening to direct vent gasses and ambient air through or around the breather filter.

  • Patent number: 6099729
Abstract: A coreless filter element for a filter housing includes cylindrical filter media having longitudinally-extending pleats extending from one end cap on the filter media to another end cap on the filter media. The filter media is preferably a multi-layered structure with an outer support mesh layer attached to an inner prefiltration layer by an intermediate adhesive web layer. An inner wrap of a porous fibrous filter media is provided within the central cylindrical cavity of the pleated filter media. The wrap has a cylindrical form with an outer surface which is joined to the inner pleat peaks of the media such as with one or more beads of adhesive, or with a continuous adhesive layer applied to the outer surface of the support wrap. The filter element with inner support wrap can be easily located over a metal support core integral with the filter housing, and provides structural integrity for the pleats of the filter media.

  • Patent number: 6099726
Abstract: A filter apparatus (10) which dissipates static charge from fluid flowing through the apparatus has a filter housing (12) enclosing a filter element (14). The filter element includes a tubular filter media assembly (15) which incorporates a conductive structure to draw off static charge in fluid passing through the media. The tubular filter media assembly comprises an outer steel mesh support layer (24); a first intermediate layer (25) of a filtration media; a second intermediate layer (26) of a carbon material, e.g., stainless steel, nickel or carbon fiber mesh, mat or matrix; and an inner steel mesh support layer (27). The filter media assembly is pleated and disposed around a central perforated conductive tube (16). The filter media is electrically connected at one or both ends through conductive adhesive or epoxy to at least one conductive end cap (20, 22). The conductive end cap has a central opening (33, 34), and receives a portion of the grounded filter housing (50, 52), for example, an inlet tube.
