  • Patent number: 4785039
Abstract: A coating composition substantially prevents fraying of glass fiber yarn packages. The composition is composed of an aqueous solution of a resin formed of the hydrolysis product of a copolymer of vinyl aromatic monomer and maleic anhydride, an organo silane glass fiber anchoring agent and an effective amount of a water-soluble pyrrolidone-containing polymer sufficient to form a protective film over the glass fiber.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 29, 1987
Date of Patent: November 15, 1988
    Assignee: Owens-Corning Fiberglass Corporation
Inventors: Donald J. Algrim, Donn R. Vermilion, Donald J. Hammond, Richard M. Haines

  • Patent number: 4277382
Abstract: A curable coating composition comprising a polysiloxane resin having at least two silanol groups or groups readily hydrolyzable thereto, a non-resinous silane reactable with at least two such groups for curing the polysiloxane resin and a catalyst can be stablilized against gelation by emulsifying the polysiloxane resin with a nonionic or anionic surfactant and emulsifying the catalyst with a polycarbinolpolysiloxane substantially free of silanol groups and groups readily hydrolyzable thereto, the non-resinous silane curing agent being coemulsified together with either or both of the other components. This composition is particularly useful as a coating for glass fibers to be used in elevated temperature environments.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 9, 1979
Date of Patent: July 7, 1981
    Assignee: Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation
Inventors: Kingso C. Lin, Donald J. Hammond
  • Patent number: 4209425
Abstract: A conductive coating is disclosed, the coating comprising conductive particles, at least one surfactant, a thixotropic gelling agent, and, optionally, an organosilane coupling agent and a defoamer. The coating is suitable for use as a slip coating, which coating is particularly suitable for use in the production of conductive cores employed to produce electrical cables.
