    Abstract: A transmission having four forward gearsets and reverse gearing on one side of the forward gearsets. First and second shift members are mounted on the other side of the forward gearing for axial shifting movement to selectively engage the forward gearsets. A shift shaft having a shift lever is mounted transversely of the forward gearsets for axial selecting movement and rotary shifting movement. A reverse shift member is centrally pivotally mounted on the shift shaft, engages a guide to prevent axial movement, and has one end adjacent the other shift members and the other end shifting the reverse gearing.
