  • Patent number: 8011703
Abstract: A handle assembly has a handle, a handle spigot to which the handle is attached, a biasing member to bias the handle to a naturally closed position, an operating plate which is rotatable by the handle spigot, a mounting stock, and a housing, the spigot, the biasing member, operating plate and a majority of the mounting stock being positioned within the housing, the mounting stock being securable to the housing to hold all the components within the housing. In this manner, the handle assembly can be made as a “complete” unit with all the internal components being in position and with the handle being rotatably attached relative to the housing. Thus, no separate rose is required. Another advantage is that the unit can be assembled using a substantially concealed fixing arrangement to improve security and also to improve the aesthetic appeal of the assembly.

  • Patent number: 6374650
Abstract: The invention is concerned with a lock mechanism of the kind having a deadbolt (9) which is operable by either an inside actuator or an outside actuator. The inside actuator usually includes a turn knob or the like, and the outside actuator usually includes a key operated lock. The lock mechanism includes a gear train (8) through which each of the two actuators is drivably connected to the deadbolt (9). The gear train includes two drive gears (13, 14) which are independently rotatable about a common axis of rotation, and each is connected to a respective one of the two actuators so as to rotate in response to operation of that actuator. The gear train (8) also includes two driven gear (17, 18) which are united to form a single piece composite gear (16), and each driven gear (17, 18) is cooperable with a respective one of the two drive gears (13, 14).

  • Patent number: 4048694
Abstract: A door closer of the kind having a piston slidably mounted in a bore containing hydraulic fluid and dividing that bore into damping and reservoir chambers. Drive means is connected to the piston to respond to sliding movement of the piston and translate that into rotary motion for driving door connected linkage. The piston is spring influenced in a direction towards the damping chamber, and fluid pressurized by the piston tending to move in that direction bleeds from the damping chamber through an escape port which is controlled by a biased and movable closure member. Normally the closure member is biased into a rest position in which it blocks passage of fluid through the escape port, but it responds to fluid pressure in the damping chamber to move into an open position at which fluid can bleed through the escape port.
