    Abstract: A radiographic element for medical diagnostic imaging is disclosed comprised of a transparent support and first and second silver halide emulsion layer units coated on opposite sides of the film support, each emulsion layer unit being comprised of a silver iodohalide tabular grain emulsion containing less than 5 mole percent iodide, based on silver. An improvement in speed in relation to granularity is obtained by the presence of tabular grains having {111} major faces, containing a maximum surface iodide concentration along their edges, and a lower iodide concentration within their corners than elsewhere along their edges.

    Abstract: A chemically and spectrally sensitized ultrathin tabular grain emulsion is disclosed including tabular grains (a) having {111} major faces, (b) containing greater than 70 mole percent bromide, based on silver, (c) accounting for greater than 90 percent of total grain projected area, (d) exhibiting an average equivalent circular diameter of at least 0.7 .mu.m, and (e) exhibiting an average thickness of less than 0.07 .mu.m.Improved sensitivity is observed when the surface chemical sensitization sites include silver halide protrusions of a face centered cubic crystal lattice structure forming epitaxial junctions with the tabular grains and having a higher overall solubility than at least that portion of the tabular grains forming epitaxial junctions with the protrusions and a sensitivity enhancing combination of dopants are contained in the silver halide grains including a first sensitivity enhancing dopant capable of providing shallow electron trapping sites and a second sensitivity enhancing selenium dopant.

The speed-granularity relationship of the emulsion is improved by employing in forming the surface chemical sensitization sites at least one silver salt epitaxially located on tabular grain surface sites that contain increased iodide concentrations.

    Abstract: A color photographic element having a support bearing at least one radiation sensitive emulsion layer comprising dispersing medium and silver halide grains is disclosed. The emulsion layer is a tabular grain silver halide emulsion layer Wherein at least 50 percent of total grain projected area is accounted for by tabular grains (a) bounded by {100} major faces having adjacent edge ratios of less than 10, (b) each having an aspect ratio of at least 2, and (c) internally at their nucleation site, containing iodide and at least 50 mole percent chloride. The emulsion layer has in reactive association an image dye-forming compound and a compound that contains a photographically useful group and is capable of reacting with oxidized developing agent to thereby release such group. A process for preparing the radiation sensitive tabular grain silver halide emulsions is also described.

    Abstract: Silver halide emulsions are disclosed in which at least 50 percent of total grain projected area is accounted for by tabular grains (1) bounded by {100} major faces having adjacent edge ratios of less than 10, (2) each having an aspect ratio of at least 2, and (3) internally at their nucleation site containing iodide and at least 50 mole percent chloride. The emulsions are prepared by a process comprised of the steps of (a) introducing silver and halide salts into a dispersing medium so that nucleation of the tabular grains occurs in the presence of iodide with chloride accounting for at least 50 mole percent of the halide present in the dispersing medium and the pCl of the dispersing medium being maintained in the range of from 0.5 to 3.5 and (b) following nucleation completing grain growth under conditions that maintain the {100} major faces of the tabular grains.

    Abstract: A wristwatch contains communication and memory circuitry and a transmitter. The memory circuit stores a personal identification number of a single user. The communication and memory circuitry is driven by the same battery which powers the timekeeping structure of the watch. A transmitter transmits data from the reader to the wristwatch, placed proximate thereto. The reader has a keypad by which the user can enter a personal identification number, and the watch compares the transmitted number to the user-entered number. If the numbers match, a transaction may occur.

    Abstract: A hook setting apparatus which supports a fishing rod and is triggered responsive to the fish jerking on the bait secured to the rod through a fishing line. The apparatus includes a support member disposed in the substantially upright position which pivotally carries on its end portion a second member which supports a rod holder. A spring assembly biases the second member in a predetermined pivotal direction for setting the hook in the fish's mouth. A trigger assembly which is mounted on the support member maintains a second member in a predetermined pivotal position by counteracting the forces applied to the second member by the tension spring assembly. The trigger assembly releases the second member responsive to a fish jerking on the fishing pole such that the tension spring assembly thereby sets the hook in the fish's mouth. The force required to trigger the device can be adjusted such that fishes of various sizes will activate the device.
