Patent number: 11810560Abstract: Techniques for presenting content by a voice-controlled device are described. In an example, the voice-controlled device is operatively coupled to a presentation device and supports dual mode functionalities. In a first mode, the voice-controlled device sends content for presentation at the presentation device. In a second mode, the voice-controlled device presents the content at a presentation interface of the voice-controlled device. Based on speech input from a user indicating an issue with a content presentation in the first mode, the voice-controlled device switches to the second mode and presents a message at the presentation interface indicating that subsequent content presentations would be presented at this interface. The voice-controlled device remains in the second mode until receiving additional speech input necessitating a switch to the first mode.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2021Date of Patent: November 7, 2023Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Valere Joseph Vanderschaegen, Kazim Das, Donald L. Cantrell, Johan Le Nerriec, Joseph Pedro Tavares

Patent number: 11234039Abstract: A computer-implemented method includes receiving, at a microphone of a voice-controlled device, a speech input from a user and determining, by the voice-controlled device, that a power state of an AV display device that is coupled to the voice-controlled device is an ON or OFF state. Based on the user intent determined from the speech input and the power state of the AV display, the voice-controlled device sends data to the AV display device to switch the AV display device ON or OFF. The method can further include receiving, by the voice-controlled device, content from a content source location and sending the content to the AV display device via an AV port.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2020Date of Patent: January 25, 2022Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Mark Lawrence, Balsa Laban, Anna Chen Santos, Joseph Pedro Tavares, Miroslav Ristic, Valere Joseph Vanderschaegen, Trausti Thor Kristjansson, Srivatsan Kandadai, Donald L. Patent number: 9973606Abstract: A method in a wireless communication device includes detecting, with one or more control circuits actuation of the user interface actuator. The one or more control circuit can then determine whether the wireless communication device is disposed at a first predefined location, such as a first receiver of a wireless communication device accessory or a second predefined location. Where the wireless communication device is disposed at the first predefined location, the one or more control circuits can cause a wireless communication circuit to enter a first mode of operation, which can be a searching pairing mode of operation. Where the wireless communication device is disposed at the second predefined location, the one or more control circuits can cause the wireless communication circuit to enter a second mode of operation, which can be a listening pairing mode of operation.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2017Date of Patent: May 15, 2018Assignee: Motorola Mobility LLCInventors: Taneka L Frazier Fields, Donald L Cantrell, Marc B Riley

Patent number: 9462109Abstract: A wireless communication device can include one or more control circuits, a wireless communication circuit, and an audio output device. The one or more control circuits can receive audio source information identifying an audio source from a paired wireless communication device, and can detect whether the paired wireless communication device is within a communication radius. Where it is, the wireless communication device can receive single-channel audio information from the paired wireless communication device for delivery to the audio output device. However, where it is not, the wireless communication device can connect to the audio source using the audio source information, receive multi-channel audio information from the audio source, and deliver the multi-channel audio information to the audio output device.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2015Date of Patent: October 4, 2016Assignee: Motorola Mobility LLCInventors: Taneka L Frazier Fields, Donald L Cantrell, Marc B Riley
