  • Patent number: 7520341
Abstract: A drill housing rotatably supports a shaft having an internal cavity for receiving a drilling device, such as a drill steel, bolt driver, and rock anchor adaptor. The upper end of the housing is closed by a cover plate and a flinger having an opening for receiving pressurized fluid and a passageway for transporting the pressurized fluid into the shaft. The pressurized fluid axially displaces a collet mounted within the shaft against the bias of a spring to frictionally engage the drilling device to transmit rotation thereto.

  • Patent number: 7513319
Abstract: A drill steel includes a drill bit and a reamer bit. The drill steel rotates the drill bit to form a hole in a work surface and drives forward to insert the reamer bit into the hole. The reamer bit includes a plurality of inserts positioned on a cylindrical drilling surface to ream out the hole by carving channels in the hole interior surface. The inserts include cutting elements that have radiused or arcuate edges.

  • Patent number: 7273431
Abstract: A game ball is instrumented with a transducer to measure the impact forces on the ball and/or the decelerations by the ball experienced during an attempted catch by a person. The impact forces on the ball are equal and opposite to the forces on the hands of a person catching the ball so that the ball may be used as a training apparatus to teach a person the proper technique to catch a ball. A preferred catching technique includes decelerating the approaching ball to rest by the hands such that the action time of the catch is increased and the resulting force on the hands and the ball is decreased. Wireless transmission of data from the ball is sent to a remote receiver in one embodiment.

  • Patent number: 7228922
Abstract: A drill bit has a pair of cutting teeth with cutting elements extending from a cutting end portion of the drill bit. Each cutting tooth extends radially, outwardly parallel to a longitudinal axis of the drill steel. The cutting teeth are juxtaposed with one another on the longitudinal axis. Each cutting tooth includes a plurality of raised cutting elements connected to a plurality of lowered edge portions. The cutting elements produce concentric circular channels in the working surface of a rock formation, as the drill bit rotates during the cutting operation. The drill bit also includes a pocket for accumulating and removing dislodged material during the cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 6695071
Abstract: A drill head for holding a drill steel includes a drill housing having an internal cavity defined by an upper opening and a lower portion with a lower opening extending therethrough. The internal cavity includes a pair of concentric axially aligned sleeves. An internal sleeve has an inner surface for receiving a drill steel and an outer tapered surface. An external sleeve has an internal tapered mating surface for receiving the internal sleeve. The drill head also includes a sliding member for receiving hydraulic pressure to move the internal sleeve on the tapered surface of the external sleeve into gripping engagement of the drill steel. A Belleville spring provides an opposing force to normally maintain the internal sleeve out of gripping engagement with the drill steel.

  • Patent number: 5195598
Abstract: An improved rotary drill head assembly including a drill head cover having an upper portion, a rotatable drill retaining socket having an outer surface and a support member having an upper portion. The socket extends above the support member. A flinger attached to the upper portion of the support member and having an axial passage extending therethrough, a top cap having an axial passage extending therethrough. An arrangement for attaching the flinger to the top cap including a pin received by one of the flinger and the top cap. A top plate attached to the top cap. The top plate includes an arrangement to protect the pin from the outside environment and to hold the pin in place against axial movement. A sealing arrangement between the upper portion of the drill head cover and the flinger. The flinger, top cap, top plate and upper portion of the drill head cover may be coated with a ceramic material.

  • Patent number: 4506501
Abstract: Apparatus for repairing a section of chain having a closed rectangular frame and a hydraulic ram located within the confines of the frame. The frame has a pair of spaced parallel side rails, a front end member connecting one end of the side rails, and a rear end member connecting the other end of the side rails. Each side rail has a U-shaped downwardly opening notch located between the front end member and the rear end member to lie over a chain to be worked on. An anvil is located on a face of the front end member and the front member is removably connected to the side rails so it may be reversed relative to the side rails to locate the anvil within the confines of the frame when connecting chain sections and outside of the confines of the frame when disconnecting chain sections. The ram has a first head which contacts chain connecting pins to disconnect chain sections and a second head which contacts a link to connect chain sections.

  • Patent number: 4478248
Abstract: A rotary valve having a housing with a center section and a pair of end sections attached to the center section. A rotary shaft extending axially through the center section into said end sections with bearings in each end section rotatably supporting an end of the shaft. The center section and the end sections form a pair of axially aligned chambers within the housing and a cylindrical rotor is located in each chamber. Each rotor is fixed to the shaft for rotation with the shaft and each rotor has a continuous groove formed in its peripheral edge. A plurality of radially and angularly spaced arcuate slots are formed in each face of each rotor and a plurality of passages are formed in each rotor. The passages intersect the arcuate slots and the continuous groove to connect arcuate slots with other arcuate slots and with the groove. Passageways are formed in the end sections of the valve to connect the individual chambers with the exterior of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4416337
Abstract: A drill housing includes an internal cavity for receiving a unitary tubular support member rotatably supported by bearing assemblies in the drill housing. The tubular support member is connected through meshing gears to a drive shaft of a rotary motor mounted externally on the drill housing. An upper end portion of the tubular support member is rotatably supported by a first bearing assembly and is nonrotatably connected to a drill retaining member that extends into a central bore of the tubular support member. The drill retaining member has a socket for receiving the shank of a drill steel. A lower end portion of the tubular support member is rotatably supported by a second bearing assembly. An enlarged intermediate body portion of the support member separates the upper and lower end portions and supports the first and second bearing asemblies.
