  • Patent number: 11066799
Abstract: A protective jacket encircles a pile that is covered with a protective tape so that the tape cannot unravel, which is a common problem with these wraps. The protective jacket has a number of components that are bolted together to squeeze the pile. The protective jacket has an expanded metal mesh on the inner surface of the jacket, to engage and press against the protective tape wrap to prevent the protective jacket from slipping down the pile due to gravity. Embodiments for cylindrical piles and for H-piles are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9382682
Abstract: A truss cage formed of two symmetrical halves is fastened together around a pile. Traction motors having caterpillar treads oriented for vertical movement are pressed against the pile by springs. A trolley ride along the tracks formed by the truss cage on the outside of the cage and carries one or more water jets or other cleaning tools. The trolley oscillates along the outside of the truss cage as the water jet sprays the pile with high pressure water. The traction motors carry the entire apparatus up and down the pile. The entire pile can thus be cleaned of marine debris.

  • Patent number: 8465228
Abstract: A supporting ring is clamped about a pile and a cleaning ring is supported below the clamping ring by a cable threaded through a number of pulleys, allowing the washing ring assembly to be raised or lowered along a pile. A washing ring carries a four high-pressure water jets that spray water against the pile while the washing ring oscillates through 110-120 degrees of arc, driven by a hydraulic motor through a gear ring. A stabilizing ring fits into a C-shaped channel formed by the washing ring, supporting the cable pulleys. Both the washing ring and the stabilizer ring can be broken down into two semi-circular sections, required for installation and removal in most applications, and are fastened together by a number of over-center clamps.

  • Patent number: 6561736
Abstract: Sheathing members surround the pile and are clamped to it by bolts inserted through flange members or portions outside the piles, which clamp the sheathing members against the pile above and below a deteriorated section of a pile and which bridge the deteriorated section of a pile. An embodiment designed for H-piles includes two channel members and one is placed in each channel of the portion of the H-pile to be repaired. A locking bar member is placed along a longitudinal edge of the H-pile and is clamped to the H-pile and the corresponding outwardly projecting flange portion of the channel patch member by nuts and bolts.

  • Patent number: 5813800
Abstract: Damaged sections of existing piles are replaced with a replacement pile section that includes various segments, including a jack section for sizing and preloading the replacement pile section to original design loads and strengths. The replacement pile section includes at least one coupler having a jack section, which includes a jack for applying a design load to the pile and a plurality of jack screws that are adjusted to accept the design pile load; the hydraulic jack is removed through an access opening, so that the jack screws carry the load; the cavity in the jack section is filled with grout, such as concrete through the access opening, which is then sealed. Other sections of the replacement pile section include, for example, intermediate pile sections, shock absorbing sections, and additional couplers. An alternative embodiment employs two or more balanced hydraulic jacks bearing against external jack flanges fastened to the pile above and below the replaced section.

  • Patent number: 5226751
Abstract: A process and apparatus for creating a controlled environment about a portion of a submerged pile to be treated comprises a jacket fitted about the pile and sealed at both the top and bottom ends relative to the pile to provide a sealed encapsulated space. The jacket includes at least two sections having arcuate cross sections that are fastened together to provide a substantially cylindrical jacket. Compressed air is forced downward into the encapsulated space through one or more upper valves and encapsulated water is forced out through one or more lower valves. Further air flow dries the encapsulated space. Desired coatings, for example, rust inhibitors, epoxies, are introduced into the encapsulated space through the lower valve and the displaced air, excess coatings and chemical by-products are vented and recovered for disposal through the upper valve. The temperature inside the encapsulated space is also controlled.

  • Patent number: 4992000
Abstract: An underwater trenching system comprises a closed trenching system that vacuums up sediment removed during the trenching operation and deposits that same sediment into the trench, thereby burying a pipeline that has settled into the trench. The invention provides a trenching sled having high pressure water jets for digging and a vacuum head and lines for sucking the resulting sediment into a surge tank on a barge, from which it is re-deposited by a bury sled.
