  • Patent number: 5013509
Abstract: A tire clad concrete log and method and apparatus for forming a tire clad concrete log. The method includes the steps of providing a plurality of used tires which are made into a form by placing them in sidewall-to-sidewall contact, providing a quantity of a waste ash which is mixed as a binder in a manner making a concrete material, and filling the form with the concrete material while also maintaining the used tires in sidewall-to-sidewall contact. The tire clad concrete log thus comprises a plurality of used tires disposed in sidewall-to-sidewall contact wherein a concrete material formed at least in part by waste ash is interlockingly disposed within the used tires.

  • Patent number: 4762231
Abstract: A pneumatic device for holding an article in position in a container. The device includes an inflatable-deflatable mat adapted to be positioned in contact with a surface in the container. The mat generally conforms to the surface and defines an air passageway therethrough. The device also includes a plurality of expandable-contractable air chambers disposed about and in communication with the mat. The air chambers are inflatable and deflatable with the mat. The device further includes a pressure applying surface associated with the air chambers directly opposite the mat. The pressure applying surface is adapted to hold the article in position upon inflation of the mat and the air chambers. With this construction, the air chambers expand upon inflation to cause the pressure applying surface to engage and hold the article in the container under a substantially uniform pressure.

  • Patent number: 4733512
Abstract: A modular structure, stud therefor, and method of construction are disclosed. The modular structure includes a wall formed of an inner and outer panel defining a cavity therebetween. The stud may be disposed between the inner and outer panels with one of the panels being secured to a first portion of the stud and the other of the panels being secured to a second portion of the stud such that the first and second portions are relatively movable but may be interlocked in a fixed position within the cavity such that the inner and outer panels of the wall can be maintained in spaced apart relationship by a preselected distance. The method of construction includes placing one modular structure on top of another. Additionally, the present invention contemplates the use of retainers for maintaining a wall in a selected position relative to a floor and ceiling.
