  • Patent number: 5172720
Abstract: A single seal fluid control valve (100) is provided that has a guide member (12) secured within a chamber (34) of a body member (2) such that an outer portion of a sealing member (18) secured to an annular securement surface (21) of guide member (12) is compressed against an annular sealing surface (17) of a shoulder (26) extending from body member (2) into chamber (34) to prevent fluid leakage therebetween. An inner exposed portion of sealing member (18) is engagable by an enlarged head (16) of a pin member (31) that is guided by and reciprocally movable relative guide member (12) and operative to compress the exposed portion of sealing member (18) sufficiently to prevent fluid leakage therebetween when urged thereagainst by a biasing spring (20) when fluid pressure at an inlet (6) of body member (2) is less than required to overcome the biasing force.

  • Patent number: 4507956
Abstract: An electrical circuit element (16) is maintained in place within the drop center (24) of a vehicle wheel (10) by encasing the circuit within a cylindrical plastic housing (14) which is formed into an arcuate shape. The housing is held in place by wires (18, 19) which are connected to the ends of an extension spring (22) which applies sufficient tension to keep the housing from moving during heavy braking or due to centrifugal force. The mounting assembly is configured to move to an out of the way position when contacted by a tire iron or by elements of a tire mounting machine to prevent damage to the circuit when a tire is mounted or demounted. In accordance with another embodiment of the invention, the circuit (16) is encased within a unitary annular member (56).

  • Patent number: 4246930
Abstract: A relief valve, particularly adapted for use on racing car tires, which pops open to relieve at a set pressure and then reseats at a pressure slightly lower than the opening pressure. The valve includes a diaphragm (28) a diaphragm retaining plate (36) which has a resilient sealing element (39) molded or otherwise attached to it, a valve seat attached to the center of the diaphragm, and a compression spring (26) acting on the diaphragm to bias the valve seat against the resilient sealing element. When the valve pops open against the spring force, the area above the diaphragm is exposed to a venting pressure, via a port formed through the valve seat and through the diaphragm, which is higher than atmospheric and thus adds to the spring force, resulting in a resealing pressure which is slightly less than the opening pressure.

  • Patent number: 4226261
Abstract: A pressure relief valve (10) including a valve stem (34) having an elastomeric valve element (36) received in a counterbore (38) formed in one end thereof and engageable with a valve seat (32) formed in the body (12) of the valve. An annular channel (58) is formed in the valve body surrounding the valve seat, and the valve element is recessed below the outer edge of the counterbored end of the valve stem, such that a thin, annular wall section (39) defined by the difference between the diameter of the counterbore and the outer diameter (40) of the valve stem, extends downward into the annular channel when the valve is closed. The outer diameter of the counterbored end of the valve stem is substantially smaller than the inner diameter (22) of the main valve chamber to define an annular fluid escape passage (64) and a lip is formed on the valve stem above the counterbored end to guide the valve stem in the main valve chamber.

  • Patent number: 4194770
Abstract: A pressure and liquid tight compression fitting particularly adapted for attachment to a beverage container. An externally threaded body portion of the fitting is inserted through a wall of the container and is clamped to the wall by means of a nut. A first pressure seal is effected by an O-ring received in a groove formed in the face of the nut in contact with the container wall. A first liquid seal is effected by a thin lip formed at the outer edge of the nut, beyond the O-ring. A combined second pressure seal and second liquid seal is effected by interfitting tapered sections of the body portion and the nut beyond the threaded connection between the body and the nut.

  • Patent number: 4103704
Abstract: A valve for relieving pressure in a container including an adjustably spring loaded poppet wherein the adjusting means therefor is covered by an actuator knob which drivingly engages the poppet which knob is operable to move the poppet to and from its operative sealing position through engagement of a projection formed in the knob with a cam surface formed on the valve housing. Indentations in the cam surface retain the knob in positions corresponding to sealing and open positions of the poppet.
