Patent number: 7079570Abstract: A wireless communication system comprises first and second communication stations which send and receive symbols in signals in a shared spectrum. The symbols are recovered from the received signals. Codes of the signals are processed using a block Fourier transform (FT), producing a code block diagonal matrix. A channel response matrix is estimated. The channel response matrix is extended and modified to produce a block circulant matrix, and a block FT is taken producing a channel response block diagonal matrix. The code block diagonal matrix is combined with the channel response block diagonal matrix. The received signals are sampled and processed using the combined code block diagonal matrix and channel response block diagonal matrix with a Cholesky algorithm. A block inverse FT is performed on a result of the Cholesky algorithm to produce spread symbols. The spread symbols are despread to recover symbols of the received signals.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2005Date of Patent: July 18, 2006Assignee: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Jung-Lin Pan, Yuejin Huang, Donald M. Patent number: 7042929Abstract: Data from a plurality of communications is transmitted in a code division multiple access communication system. The transmitted communications are received at a receiver and converted into a baseband signal. The baseband signal is sampled to produce a received vector. An estimating device estimates channel responses as a channel response matrix and estimates a noise variance of the received communications. The noise variance is then scaled using a scaling factor derived from at least one gain factor determined for at least one received communication. The received communications are then equalized using the channel response matrix and the scaled noise variance to produce a spread data vector. The spread data vector is despread in order to detect data transmitted as part of the received communications. In an alternate embodiment, the channel response matrix is scaled instead of the noise variance.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2005Date of Patent: May 9, 2006Assignee: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Jung-Lin Pan, Younglok Kim, Donald M. Patent number: 7006840Abstract: A method for frame synchronization of a receiver in a wireless communication system wherein data is transmitted in frame units in a multipath environment begins by extracting data samples for a predetermined window size. A training sequence corresponding to a given cell parameter is generated. The data is correlated with the training sequence over different lags to locate the position of the first significant path, which defines the beginning of the frame. The correlated data is accumulated N times for each lag position to produce at least one accumulation vector. A most significant path value and position is determined that is the largest value among the accumulation vectors. A frame synchronization correction value is calculated based on the difference between the first significant path position and a constant called frame offset. The frame synchronization is adjusted based upon the frame synchronization correction value.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2003Date of Patent: February 28, 2006Assignee: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Aykut Bultan, John W. Patent number: 6954447Abstract: A method and system for uplink (UL) synchronization of an uplink transmission from a plurality of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) to a Node-B in a code division multiple access (CDMA) system. A Node-B receives a transmission including a UL synchronization (SYNC_UL) sequence from a WTRU. A sampler samples the transmission at a sampling rate which is higher than a chip rate. The samples are down-sampled and the SYNC_UL sequence is detected at a lower rate. A first significant path location of the detected SYNC_UL sequence is determined, and based on the first significant path location, a final significant path location is determined. The final significant path location is quantized and UpPCHPOS is transmitted to the WTRU to adjust a UL transmission timing.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2004Date of Patent: October 11, 2005Assignee: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Donald M. Patent number: 6842496Abstract: A method for differential phase evaluation of M-ary communication data is employed in which the data consists of N sequential symbols r1 . . . rN, each having one of M transmitted phases. Selected sequences of N?1 elements that represent possible sequences of phase differentials are evaluated using multiple-symbol differential detection. Using r1 as the reference for each phase differential estimate, sN?1 phase differential sequences are selected in the form (P2i, P3i, . . . , PNi) for i=1 to s for evaluating said symbol set, where s is predetermined and 1<s<M. Each set of s phase differential estimate values are chosen based on being the closest in value to the actual transmitted phase differential value. These s phase differential estimates can be determined mathematically as those which produce the maximum results using conventional differential detection.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2002Date of Patent: January 11, 2005Assignee: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Bin Li, Robert A. Publication number: 20040214593Abstract: A transmitting station performs closed loop power control prior to a transmission pause. A closed loop transmission power level prior to the pause is determined. A reference signal is received and a received power level of the reference signal prior to and during the transmission pause is determined. The measured reference signal received power levels are compared to a transmit power level of the reference signals to produce a pathloss estimate of the reference signal prior to and during the transmission pause. A new transmit power level is determined by adjusting the closed loop transmission power level by a change between the prior to and during pathloss estimates. A transmission power level of the transmitting station is set to the determined new transmit power level. A communication is transmitted at the set transmission power level.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 18, 2004Publication date: October 28, 2004Applicant: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Sung-Hyuk Shin, Ariela Zeira, Fatih Ozluturk, Donald M. Patent number: 4950499Abstract: A compliant sealing material with low or no gas permeability and low spring rate is made by coating a metal such as gold, on the surface of a polymer sheet. The metal acts as a complete gas barrier on an atomic level, and the polymer provides structural integrity and mounting attributes without detrimentally increasing compliance. A small number of metal atoms injected at a moderate energy into the near surface of the polymer act as link sites for joining subsequent lower energy atoms forming an impermeable layer. The total heat delivery to the polymer is minimized thereby preserving integrity and continuity. The material is particularly useful in micromechanical devices where high flexibility is needed with complete sealing.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1989Date of Patent: August 21, 1990Assignee: The Foxboro CompanyInventors: John R.
