  • Patent number: 9586061
Abstract: An X-ray system comprises: (a) a source providing an X-ray diverging beam having treatment and imaging angular portions; (b) one or more lenses transforming the treatment portion of the X-ray beam into a converging beam directed to a target; (c) a first shutter located between the X-ray source and the target in the imaging portion of the X-ray radiation; the first shutter being selectively openable such that imaging portion of X-ray beam reaches the target; and (d) a detector configured to detect at least a portion of the imaging radiation after the imaging radiation has interacted with the target to provide imaging information of the target.

  • Patent number: 5839369
Abstract: Reusable lithographic printing members are prepared from a zirconia ceramic that is an alloy of ZrO.sub.2 and a second oxide chosen from MgO, CaO, Y.sub.2 O.sub.3, Sc.sub.2 O.sub.3, a rare earth oxide or a combination of any of these. In use, a printing surface of the zirconia alloy ceramic is imagewise exposed to electromagnetic radiation such as from a laser under controlled conditions to provide localized "melting" of the zirconia in the exposed areas. Those areas are transformed from a hydrophilic to an oleophilic state or from an oleophilic to a hydrophilic state, thereby creating a lithographic printing surface which is hydrophilic in non-image areas and is oleophilic and thus capable of accepting printing ink in image areas. Such inked areas can then be used to transfer an image to a suitable substrate in lithographic printing. The printing members are directly laser-imageable as well as image erasable, and can include printing plates, printing cylinders, printing tapes and printing sleeves.

  • Patent number: 5400147
Abstract: A multilevel halftone reproduction transparency medium and a method and system for reproducing images thereon. The transparency medium includes a substantially transparent carrier having first and second planar surfaces with ablative dye coatings thereon which are selected to render the medium substantially opaque in non-ablated areas, transparent in fully ablated areas, and semi-opaque in areas where one or the other of the coatings is ablated. A method and apparatus employ the medium to provide binary, trinary and quarternary gray levels in a hybrid halftone printing technique especially useful for printing radiographic images.

  • Patent number: 4762998
Abstract: An image recorded by a photostimulable phosphor image recording medium that is transparent (i.e. substantially non-scattering) to stimulating radiation is read out by scanning the stimulable phosphor with a beam of stimulating radiation of such power and at such a speed effective to completely discharge the photostimulable phosphor in a fraction of the beam spot diameter in the scanning direction, whereby the effective size of the scanning spot is smaller than the beam spot diameter, thereby increasing the resolution of the image signal in the scanning direction.

  • Patent number: 4176275
Abstract: An imaging system and method in which a multi-layered device having a photoconductive insulative layer is utilized to provide an electrostatic charge image at a layer of the device in response to imaging radiation directed to the device. A scanner for scanning the device with readout radiation is used with readout electronics for converting the electrostatic charge image to electrical signals. A D.C. voltage source is used during the imaging step to impress an electric field across the device and is also used to provide an electric field across the device and support charge flow initiated by the readout radiation during the readout step. Devices using a fluid layer that absorbs x-rays to produce electrons and ions are used in the system with x-ray imaging radiation with a conductive layer that is associated with the fluid layer re-positioned closer to the photoconductive insulative layer after the electrostatic charge image has been formed.
