  • Patent number: 6923910
Abstract: A filter cartridge 10 includes a connective end for mating with a filter head 48 and providing fluid communication between the filter media chamber and the filter head. The connective end includes a tubular member 34 disposed axially in a hollow neck 18 to define inner and radially outer axial passages (30, 32) providing independent conduits for dual flow through the neck. The outer axial passage includes an opening 38 in the elongated portion 22 of the neck and a bypass opening 42 in the distal end portion of the neck. The inner axial passage includes an opening 40 in the distal end of the neck. Proximal and distal radial seals (26, 28) are provided on the outer periphery of the elongated neck portion 22 to ensure water-tight engagement when the neck is inserted into the receiving core of the filter head.

  • Publication number: 20040129627
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a filter cartridge having a filter media chamber and a substantially hollow neck defining a distal end portion, an elongated portion and a proximal end portion for mating with the filter media chamber and connecting with a filter head having an inlet and outlet conduit. A tubular member is disposed axially in the neck which defines an inner axial passage and a radially outer axial passage bounded by the periphery of the tubular member and inner surface of the neck, so that the inner axial passage and the outer axial passage provide independent conduits for fluid flow through the neck. The tubular member has an opening in the distal end portion of the neck and the outer axial passage has an opening in the elongated portion of the neck. In addition, a bypass opening to the outer axial passage is located in the distal end portion of the neck.

  • Patent number: 6139741
Abstract: A filter system (50) includes first and second filter heads each including a housing receptacle and a filter receptacle. The second filter head (10) includes an inlet (42) providing fluid communication to the housing receptacle; an unfiltered-fluid outlet (44) connected to the inlet of the first filter head (9) via an unfiltered-fluid line (64); and a filtered-fluid outlet (46) providing fluid communication to the filter receptacle and connected to the filtered-fluid opening (32) of the first head via a filter-fluid line (62). A filtered-fluid outlet (47) is provided in the first head for filtered fluid to leave the system. A plug (34) is also included to prevent fluid communication between the filtered- and unfiltered-fluid outlets within the bore (24) of the second filter head.
