Abstract: The present invention relates to the retrieval and storage of image data captured using a digital image acquisition device such as a still camera, a video camera or a scanning device, and of image data stored on removable storage media such as compact flash, smart and memory stick media. An image retrieval architecture is described such that image data may be retrieved from any digital image acquisition device and/or from removable storage media, and a “one-click” operation is available to minimize an amount of interaction needed to retrieve image data from the digital image acquisition device.

Abstract: Automatic determination of image storage location based on comparing information contained in a data source against image metadata that is stored along with the image. The data source contains information such as date events like birthdays, and anniversaries, location information such as information pertaining to planned trips and conferences, voice recordings, and other information on which basis images can be organized. The information contained in the data source is compared against the image metadata that includes such information as the location of the image, creation date of the image, and audio annotations. Images corresponding to the same event are stored in the same location and are identified by title of the event provided in the data source. Images for which no event title is provided are stored in a default location and identified by a the date images are stored.

Abstract: The present invention comprises a system and method for providing image processing services and deriving revenue from such services as well as revenue from placement of advertising information passed on to users. A local image service center connected to a server computing system, offers services for uploading image data from a storage medium to local and/or remote storage as well as other services for processing uploaded image data. Access to uploaded image data is available via a cable television system. Revenue is derived from the services provided as well as from advertisers whose information is passed along to users.
